Former classmates, colleagues, and friends of the California man accused of attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh early Wednesday described him as a friendly but sometimes “socially awkward” young man who tended to fly “under the radar.” None of the people who spoke to National Review said they had reason to believe that Nicholas John Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, would be a threat to kill anyone. Roske’s grandfather, Dan Shannon, told CBS Los Angeles that his grandson was a “good kid,” and the allegations against him are “extremely” out of character for him. A former colleague of Roske’s said he did not stand out

There’s been no mention of how this guy got from CA to MD. If he flew, how did he manage to get all the hardware past SA? Did someone in the DC area help him.

Don’t they always fly under the radar? In all those cases where either specific assignations or mass killings are being planned or carried out it seems that the “nut job” perpetrators are always said to have flown under the radar, and are people who should have been under close mental health supervision and if things were right In the country would probably be confined in a mental health facility.

Andrew Sullivan: The scolds are in retreat 0 replies

Sullivan’s latest piece on Substack is titled “The Vibes They Are A-Shiftin'” and that actually undersells the case he makes that the woke left (or whatever you prefer to call them) appear to be in retreat. He opens by noting that it was only 2 years ago that the world was figuratively and sometimes literally on fire. Activists were demanding police be defunded and Ibram Kendi and Robin DiAngelo were seemingly anointed as our foremost public intellectuals. Jump forward two years and things look very different. Last year, Eric Adams became mayor of New York City, propelled by minority voters horrified by surging crime and chaos. This past week,

The numbers are in for the Jan. 6 Committee production. If we looked at how people were tuning out, it stood to reason it wasn’t going to go well. As anticipated, it didn’t. So to translate that into something that helps you understand how much it bombed, here’s The Hill’s media guy, Joe Concha noting that this is significantly smaller than the regular newscasts that they run that don’t have the advantage of running in primetime. “Context: The evening newscasts on CBS, NBC & ABC average anywhere from 18 to 20 million viewers combined on a typical night,” Concha explained. “Those newscasts do not air in primetime.

Would-be assassin Nicholas Roske failed to carry out his mission of assassinating Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. This isn’t surprising: the sort of person who acts on incitement from the likes of Chuck Schumer is more or less deranged, and more or less incompetent. Yet there are more where Roske came from, and one of them may succeed. What do the Democrats think about attempted assassinations of Supreme Court justices? To my knowledge, neither Schumer nor Joe Biden’s handlers have commented. I surmise that the Democrats are hoping for one or more assassinations to take place before Biden is hustled out of the White House, so that his handlers can appoint

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up by 8.6 percent in May, the highest year-over-year increase since December 1981, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed on Friday. The increase was higher than the 8.3 percent increase projected by economists. Core CPI, excluding volatile energy and food prices, increased by six percent year-over-year. The CPI increased by 1 percent in May alone, with core CPI rising 0.6 percent over the same period. Price increases were recorded in “shelter, gasoline, and food,” the BLS said. Gas prices hit a new record on Friday with the national average reaching $4.986 per gallon, according to AAA.

If the Democrats thought that the reaction to the Jan. 6 Committee was going to be riveting, the reaction so far from a variety of quarters says not so much. CNN’s Chris Wallace expressed skepticism that the Committee was going to produce anything of worth. “I’m kind of skeptical about what we’re going to see tonight and over the next couple of weeks,” Wallace said on CNN minutes before the hearing was set to begin. Wallace said the committee had put itself in danger of falling victim to too much “hype” about its findings and “over-selling” what they have to tell the American people about the attack.

Yesterday we learned that the suspect in the attempted murder of Justice Kavanaugh showed up at his home with bags containing a gun, a knife, pepper spray, zip ties and tools to break into his house. He told investigators he wanted to give his life purpose by killing Kavanaugh (before killing himself). Today, media outlets have gotten hold of the two 911 calls that Roske made shortly after he arrived. He made two calls. The first one was about a minute and ended when he couldn’t tell the dispatcher exactly where he was located. But he called back a moment later, gave an address and spoke

Joe Biden and the Democrats don’t want to have to talk about policies or any of the real issues afflicting the country right now. Because if they did, the focus would be on all their failures. That’s why they want the focus now to be on the Jan. 6 Committee and the show trial that they want to sell you. Not only is it a show trial, it even has a producer, as my colleague Jeff Charles reported, like any TV drama — according to Axios, “James Goldston — former president of ABC News, and a documentary storyteller who ran ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘Nightline’ —

Axios acquired a copy of the letter, which replicates a letter that was originally sent to Congress in 2019. There are some revisions to the message and an increased number of signatories. The push to re-send the letter is the result of a partnership between Levi’s and Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety. In the letter, CEOs describe gun violence as a “public health crisis,” noting economic impact of gun crime and the human cost of gun crime.

Joe Biden was speaking at the Summit of the Americas on Thursday. As we’ve already noted, it hasn’t been going well. Biden stumbled up the stairs as he was boarding Air Force One for Los Angeles. While objecting to the human rights violations of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela is a good thing and we should encourage that, how weak is it if

Let me quote myself from a post published May 8 about the danger of people showing up at the justices’ homes: “[I]n the current political context, a fanatic has more motive to kill one of the Court’s conservatives than just satiating his or her rage. Doing so would provide a strategic benefit to the pro-choice side. Congress should give them all the bodyguards they need, and then some.” When you have reason to believe that five justices have signed onto overturning Roe but the decision hasn’t been handed down yet, that’s an incentive to take one of those votes away by any means necessary. Especially since a Democratic president

It is no surprise that Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) dislikes President Donald Trump. After all, no man has done more to denigrate the Iraq/Afghan War strategy that her father crusaded for than Trump. He not only opposed Cheney’s approach to war, but he also mocked it mercilessly. As the former Vice President’s oldest daughter, with her own dose of less charm and less savvy, Liz Cheney has now entered on her own crusade. President Joe Biden has scrapped Donald Trump's red, white and dark blue color scheme for the new Air Force One planes, citing the additional costs it would require. That means the Biden administration is keeping the light blue and white scheme that goes back to the Kennedy era. The new Boeing 747-8s, which are being modified into flying White Houses, aren’t expected to fly until 2026. The Air Force revealed earlier this week there's a design flaw in Trump's color plan

Calling the fattest category of people 'morbidly' obese is offensive, woke researchers said today. And they urged doctors and scientists to stop referring to unsuccessful attempts to lose weight as 'failures'. Terms used moving forward should include 'ineffective' or 'insufficient' weight loss, or even 'secondary weight regain'. No specific suggestions were given to replace the phrase 'morbid', however severe is often used instead. Critics today slammed the recommendation, published in a leading obesity journal, saying it was 'odd' given morbid obesity is a clinical term. But industry experts agreed that 'less stigmatising' language was crucial in the battle against the bulge, saying 'words truly do matter'. Joe Nadglowski, president of the Obesity Action Coalition, said:
