Nine members of the 12-person ethics board of a Taser maker have resigned in protest at the company's announcement that they would begin trialing taser drones - despite the company rapidly backpedalling amid a significant backlash.Axon Enterprise, founded in Arizona in 1993, said on June 2 that they were working on 'a remotely operated, non-lethal drone system' for use in schools, to stop mass shootings.Axon first approached its ethics board more than a year ago about Taser-equipped drones, and the panel last month voted eight to four against running a limited police pilot of the technology.

They said they don't like a taser drone because they think it will make it too easy to oppress minorities.
They seem to think dead minorities is a better idea.

Sounds like a decent thing to try, but frankly, Tasers don't have all that good a success rate. Clothing often interferes with the little darts getting good electrical contact, or the suspect is quick and pulls the darts out before he is incapacitated. I'd bet that they are less than 50% effective.
But the 'ethic folks' should stay gone, and the company should get some new folks.

Fine, I'll do it. Can we find eight more volunteers here on L.? This is the most ethical group I know of, so we've got this.

People on ethics panels are usually a namby-pamby, wishie-washie, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, chestless bunch. What good is an ethics panel other than to get in the way of the sensible development of anti-crime weaponry?

I think they are just Leftists holding out for gun control and are willing to spend as many children's lives as necessary to get it. Someone needs to stop their plan.

As with all Leftists, there is always only one permissible solution to every problem -- Leftist doctrine. In this case, that would be gun "control" for law abiding citizens and schools as open to tresspass as our borders.

It's really best to keep the bad guys from ever even entering the building.
Shortly after 9-11, I was seated in the boardroom of a major airline, wherein my company was trying to sell their Chief Pilot on an idea to make their aircraft safe from a terrorist on board. After listening politely to the ideas being pitched, he quietly replied, "The best approach is to keep the bad guys from entering the airplane in the first place." After which he got up and left the room. We never again pitched such stupid solutions.

It still has the same problem as a police response. When seconds count, that drone (or police) will be minutes away. It won't prevent a shooting, it will just stop an active shooter.
The ethics board was worried that the police would abuse their powers. Don't need a drone for that. Makes me wonder if some on the ethics board are anti-police. Don't think I saw a valid argument to not do this.

Never trust a statement of "ethics" if it contains the phrase "communities of color".

How does a drone work when the attacker is inside a building?

In the Texas situation how would a Tazer equipped drone have helped? The shooter was already inside the school by the time the police showed up. So unless they were going to break windows to get the drone inside the classroom, there was no chance of getting to the shooter. A Tazer equipped drone might work in a riot situation.

12 and 13, wondering the same thing. In the article, it said the drone would be setup to use the school airduct system to get into classrooms. Interesting tactic.

Time for some competition. Why are liberals so adamant about not protecting innocent lives? Is there anything more evil?

Quite frankly, another feeble attempt to get at that bottomless tank of TAXPAYER dollars
with a product that would be another 'solution in search of a problem' ! Come up with a product
that 'seems like a good idea' - traffic cameras, anyone ? and sell it to entities that are supported
by taxpayers - townships, cities, schools, libraries, police forces, the list is endless - and make the
price astronomical, grab the money and RUN !
Most attacks are done INSIDE structures of some type so that the victims are more or less
'cornered'. And the drone will solve this issue how, exactly ?? Hence - USELESS !
