Turkey will now officially be known as Türkiye after the country's government moved to swerve associations with the ground-feeding festive bird and a term for failure. The United Nations will adopt the new name from this week at Ankara's request. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the change came into place 'from the moment' a letter sent by Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
President Erdogan ruled in November that goods manufactured in the country must now be labelled 'Made in Türkiye'. The alternative spelling expresses Turkish people's 'culture, civilisation and values', he said. Türkiye is pronounced Tur-key-yay, in line with how Turks annunciate the country's name.

This is the name of the country in the language of the country, just like Greek is called Ellada in the Greek language and Russia is called Rossiya in the Russian language. So this is not news.

Turkey -YAY! When it's Thanksgiving Day!🦃 Works for me. If you find your self in DC, you must go to Jettie's in the Foxhall neighborhood and order the Nobadeer sandwich. It's a Thanksgiving "leftovers" sandwich made with real oven roasted turkey.

Still named after the Turks? The barbarian nomads from North East China that invaded Mongolia and then pillaged and looted all the way to Western Europe, where they were finally stopped and stayed in... Turkey? That horde or ruthless and oppressive invaders that slaughtered a large portion of their ancestors, are what they insist on being named after? But they don't want to be embarrassed by being compared to a big bird? Ok then...

Well if the name had been “biden” they could have improved to “turkey”. Unfortunately bidet will spray some Ukraine stench on them. They will agree to further nato expansionism. Or pay and pay.

Well, when I was a child, I thought Turkey was a nice country because I liked turkey at Thanksgiving. I learned the difference quickly.

Turkey needs to stop persecuting Christains AND change the name of Constantinople back to Constantinople. Ataturk had some good ideas, but the current "leaders" are leading the country back to AD 600.

DO NOT trust the Turks, they still deny their genocide of the Armenians in 1915 and throughout WWI.
They're pigs and will always be pigs.

I once lived and worked in Kentucky, and was amused by the common reference to the Louisville area as Kentuckiana.
I proposed Indyucky instead.
That didn't go over very well.

1. They call us “Amerika Birleşik Devletleri“ in their language. we should demand they change it to “United States of America.” You can guess how far that demand will go.
2. About 160 other countries could similarly insist that we use their language’s name for their country. We should ignore them, too
