Dystopian Viral Videos Stream Out of Decaying

As the Big Apple rots, dystopian videos stream out of New York City almost daily. They range from disturbing to surreal, and like a bloody car crash, they are almost impossible to look away from. A video of a man being held by one man and as others beat him on a New York subway platform has been making the rounds. But this isn’t merely your average clip of an Asian being attacked in Gotham. In a twist, the man holding the victim from behind told the videographer that his captive had attempted to sexually assault a female passenger on a subway. The videographer then called the police.

New York, the city that never sleeps! Unfortunately, neither do the criminals in the Big Apple. They go all day and all night while this second consecutive clueless mayor implores important citizens to risk their lives on the subway. Yeah, surre. The political leadership, elected by the citizens, has ruined America's greatest city, made it practically uninhabitable. Despite all the great places to see, I wouldn't want to risk going there unarmed, and NYC wouldn't honor my concealed carry permit. So I crossed that city off my list. It was nice in the '70s and '90s when I was there and loved it. It isn't anymore. Criminals rule the streets. And probably many elective offices as well. I can't make the trip up there anymore. It's gone. Done departed.

Elon Musk is demanding that Tesla employees cease remote work or be fired, in two emails sent to staff of the electric car company on Tuesday. In the emails, which were leaked to electric car news website Electrek, Musk stated that all employees must be in the office for a minimum of 40 hours per week or depart the company. He also wrote that he will review potential exceptions directly, but only for “particularly exceptional contributors for whom this is impossible.” Musk reiterated the statement in a follow-up email, specifying that the office must be a main Tesla office and not an off-shoot location.

Cinemas around the country are reportedly fearing an imminent shortage of popcorn and other concession stand staples, including popcorn bags and beverage cups, as the supply chain failures of the Biden administration threaten to upend what theaters were hoping would be a mass return to moviegoing this summer. Movie theater operators expressed nervousness at the recent CinemaCon industry gathering about their ability to stock concession stands for the summer and Christmas seasons, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. “Popcorn supply will be tight,” Norm Krug, chief executive of Preferred Popcorn, a supplier of kernels to theater chains, told the newspaper. “It’s a mess,” a theater owner said.

As we reported earlier, Michael Sussmann was found not guilty of lying to the FBI, despite the evidence that he was working for the Clinton campaign and that he told FBI General Counsel James Baker that he was not working for any client. That raised questions as to how, given the evidence, you get a not guilty verdict in this case? Now, part of the issue may have been judicial rulings that hindered Special Counsel John Durham’s case to some degree, as I noted. The other part may have been you likely started out with an unfavorable jury, to begin with, in D.C., but then, in this case, you also seemed
NYT: Let's face it, the mask mandates

Do masks prevent transmission of COVID-19? Yes, reports the New York Times’ David Leonhardt — in the laboratory. In the real world, no data definitively establishes effectiveness of masking, and especially of mask mandates. The difference matters, Leonhardt warns, because upticks in transmission and hospitalization will likely have policymakers reverting back to mask mandates even though there is no data that shows an impact on either: Masks reduce the spread of the Covid virus by preventing virus particles from traveling from one person’s nose or mouth into the air and infecting another person. Laboratory studies have repeatedly demonstrated the effect. Given this, you would think that communities

A Texas law that would bar social media companies from taking action on hate speech and disinformation was temporarily blocked Tuesday in a rare 5-4 Supreme Court ruling. Justices John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen Breyer ruled in favor of tech industry groups looking to block the law, with Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and Elena Kagan dissenting. The decision is a win for tech groups pushing back on laws coming from Republican-controlled state legislatures that seek to put barriers on social media companies’ ability to moderate content.

In its lineup this morning RealClearPolitics has done us the service of going back to Daniel Henninger’s weekly Wall Street Journal column of this past Thursday on “Joe Biden’s train-wreck economy” (behind the Journal’s paywall). We noted Biden’s reference in Tokyo to the “incredible transition” he is engineering to renewable energy and a green economy. A beautiful future awaits, if we can draw on our savings to pay $5.00 a gallon and more at the pump. I took the talk of “transition” as more mush from the wimp. Henninger makes a persuasive case that “Biden” is to be taken seriously:

Last year, the United Methodist Church accepted Isaac Simmons, who regularly preaches dressed as a drag queen under the name Ms. Penny Cost, as a candidate for ordination. Since that time, Simmons, who serves as an associate pastor at Hope United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Illinois, has challenged basic theological concepts, projecting a worldview where divinity rests not in God but in queerness. In a church preparing to split over LGBTQ issues, the drag queen pastor, who embraces queer theology while barely attempting to plaster on the basic tenets of Christian theology, has become a lightning rod. Yellowstone National Park, Wyo. — A bison gored a 25-year-old woman in Yellowstone National Park. The bison was walking near a boardwalk at Black Sand Basin, just north of Old Faithful, when the woman approached it on Monday, according to a park statement. She got within 10 feet before the animal gored her and tossed her 10 feet in the air. The woman, from Grove City, Ohio, sustained a puncture wound and other injuries. Park emergency medical providers responded and transported her via ambulance to a hospital in Idaho. Park officials say it's the first reported bison goring this year.

Those flying throughout the United States may soon have to put their masks back on, as the Department of Justice has filed an appeal of an April decision that ended the unpopular mask mandate on planes and public transit. The Centers for Disease Control had first implemented the mandate in February 2021 amid rising COVID cases, but as the number of cases started to drastically decline the mandate became unpopular among both passengers and crew members. In fact, during a Senate hearing about the financial support airlines received in 2020 and 2021, American Airlines CEO Doug Parker and Southwest CEO Gary Kelly spoke out against the mandate.
