More gun laws will not stop America’s
moral decay

This past week our nation saw another morally lost young man enter a local school and proceed to shoot and kill 19 children and two teachers. The next shoe to drop was as predictable as the sunrise: Our nation’s elites rushed to their respective podiums to score political points. Their solution? Remove the personal rights of all law-abiding Americans and replace these rights with more laws. In the minds of our country’s political class, this is the only solution. The average citizen’s freedom “to keep and bear arms” is clearly to blame for every heinous act reported on the nightly

The moral decay has been going on for quite awhile. Ever listen to rap lyrics? View the content of TV programming and movies that passes for mainstream entertainment? The over exposing clothing worn by "celebrities " that's labeled " empowering ". The accepting of feelings instead fact/truth that has obliterated standards of decency. The destruction of our cities because of the lack of prosecution of criminals. None of this is by accident.

How about hard-time sentencing for gun crimes??? Currently, DAs plea bargain down, light sentences & early releases. Creates a lot of repeat offenders. Punishments are meant to modify behavior and deter from crime. Going too light is the problem! Screw the "over-incarceration" cries and racist allegations. No matter the color - do the crime, do the time!!

20 year mandatory, non-parole incarceration for carrying a gun illegally. Won't cure everything, but it will be a start.

Kids that are prescribed mood-altering drugs at an early age, having no social skills sit in their room trolling the internet, playing destructive games instead of participating in outdoor activities, bike riding, swimming, softball seems to be a common link that young male shooters share. After every shooting, people say they knew the guy was threatening and a problem, but no one speaks out until after the incident. I do not know what laws can be made to get someone with severe mental problems into a facility before he (usually a male) explodes, but that would be a start. The gun is not the problem, it is the mentally deranged kid getting access and using it to mow innocent people down.

Showing my age here, but when I was in high school many kids came to school with their long guns so they could go hunting after classes. I blame culture (or the lack thereof), not guns.

I’m wondering if a couple posters actually read the article. There are places where imprisonment is mandatory for illegal possession of a gun like Chicago, anywhere in New Jersey including Camden and Newark, Detroit, anywhere in Maryland including Baltimore, etc. These and other states and cities like them are also very often places with the highest murder rates where guns are involved. The article deals with root causes and the importance of moral rot in the commission of shootings.

yeah, I'm an old fogey "boomer" and I remember growing up in the 50s. For years we had no TV at all. When Pop finally bought one in 57 there were only 2 local stations and there was always something entertaining on - and that entertainment was wholesome and moral and usually contained a life lesson. Today I have a choice of a hundred channels plus on demand and internet programming. It is no longer "bubblegum for the eyes" but narcotics for numbed mind and immoral soul. I would like to cancel cable but I prefer a happy wife.

#3 Guns don't kill people......people kill people...... 99.9% of gun owners are law abiding citizens. More laws aren't going to make a difference if the laws we already have on the books aren't being enforced. Blame our leadership at all levels.

Democrats love to preach about "gun control" laws whenever there are school shootings, while simultaneously preaching about "defunding the police", "cashless bail", "institutional racism". The Democrats are the cause of all our current woes. Misguided social justice policies, avoiding personal blame, divisive rhetoric, BLM & Antifa violence, you own it all, Democrats. All you care about is POWER and the end justifies the means. No matter how many people get hurt or die along the way. Democrats are scum.

#3, while I generally agree with your recommendation I think 'illegally' needs better definition. A felon who is clearly violating the law is different than a somewhat innocent person who stubs their toe on some obscure technical violation. Also, where is the money going to come from to finance a massive increase in the cost of facilities, personnel, and expenses required to house tens of thousands of convicts for 20 years?

Substituting "Morally Lost" for "Mentally Ill" is just another word game that absolves the evil inherent in this perp, and tries to hold the whole society culpable for his actions. Authorities no longer substitute "Red Flags" for "Blue Papers", leaving these dangerous people in play to injure themselves and others.

There are about 330 million Americans in the USA who are covered by the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution, who if they are law abiding citizens have the right to keep and bear firearms for whatever lawful purpose they deem appropriate. About 100 million of those Americans own up to possessing legal firearms in accordance with the law, and who knows how many other Americans own illegal firearms outside the law. The horrific murderous incident that took place in the elementary school at Uvalde, Texas was a very rare occurrence indeed, that was perpetrated by a anti social homicidal maniac, as ostensively a knee jerk or copy cat reaction to the killings that took place, and the recent world wide publicity that took place a short time ago in Buffalo, New York. Crimes that were also perpetrated by another anti social homicidal maniac. In response, the long term partisan leftist Democrat anti 2nd Amendment controversy now is being supercharged in support of the radical leftist Democrat political agenda, that of course the liberal media supports, banning what amounts to all modern firearms being purchased and possessed by all law abiding Americans As the result of the horrific crimes that were perpetrated by anti social and homicidal maniacs because of the deficiencies in mental health services to troubled people across the country, that most likely would have professionally diagnosed their serious anti social and mental health conditions which could well have led to a legal determination that those anti social homicidal maniacs were not qualified to purchase and own firearms under the current gun control laws.

Back in 1988, scientists in London almost seem to have had a crystal ball. Writing in the International Journal of Epidemiology, they made a bold – and surprisingly prescient – prediction about monkeypox: Over time, "the average magnitude and duration of monkeypox epidemics will increase," they wrote. At the time, monkeypox was an extremely rare disease. Health-care workers detected only a few cases a year in West and Central Africa. People caught the disease almost exclusively from rodents or primates and then spread the virus to only a few people. Transmission between people was limited. But the foresighted scientists warned that, over

It's no secret that the average new car is awfully heavy. That's because the average new car is usually a crossover, SUV, or pickup truck, and as battery power becomes more prominent, that problem won't be remedied right away. This causes issues on more than a couple of fronts, namely pedestrian safety and infrastructure. Some Washington D.C. council members are looking for a way to mitigate large vehicles' impacts on both by proposing that anyone with a car or truck weighing over 6,000 pounds pay $500 annually. As Bloomberg reports, that's roughly seven times the normal registration fee for, say

Washington—A federal jury on Tuesday found former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann not guilty of lying to the FBI — finding special counsel John Durham did not prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt. The verdict by a jury in heavily Democratic-leaning DC, came midway through the second day of deliberations following a two-week trial on a single count of making false statements to a federal agent. Durham’s prosecution team unsuccessfully sought to prove that Sussmann deliberately lied to then-FBI general counsel James Baker by claiming not to be acting on behalf of the Clinton campaign and an internet executive when the two met in 2016.
