The conflict between grotesquely dishonest Democrat politicians who claim to be “devout Catholics” to win what remains of the ethnic Catholic vote and the teachings of the Catholic Church (Roman, Orthodox, and all other permutations) may be coming to a head.
One of the two major offenders on the national scene is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. (snip) Tuesday, Pelosi talked to Morning Joe to explain her position. (snip) So this decision, taking us to privacy and precedent, is very dangerous in the lives of so many of the American people. And again, not consistent with the Gospel of Matthew.

Nancy thinks being Catholic is like being of Italian heritage. She can claim it, no matter how she acts. She wears it like one of her designer masks that can be changed upon whim. If she thinks it, it must be true. She may have memorized the old Baltimore Catechism to pass a test, but the meaning of the words escaped any implantation in her mind or soul. Her ignorant remarks are the hallmark of the Cafeteria Catholic; choosing those doctrines that make them feel good and rejecting those that bother their conscience. She gives scandal to the Church with her every utterance. I cannot imagine what it must have been like for Archbishop Cordileone to talk personally with this lost soul's demented reasoning.
Observation: Nancy copied Hillary's "pretty in pink" suit. I wonder if its standard issue in the Dem costume department for distressed damsels.

Communion is a means of grace! God gives us the gift of His body and blood for the forgiveness of sin! Nancy turns it into a vile work that she somehow deserves being the special human that she is! Jesus spoke to the Rich young ruler about His kingdom! He offered not one bit of Gospel to him! He only used the law to crush his proud heart! Nancy has not had her heart of works crushed yet! Not having the Gospel of Christ she is lost and insists on outward shows of her goodness! I suspect she is lost and is running out of time to accept the free gift of salvation! Jesus is the great healer, but a person must be sick before requiring a Doctor!

She is a hideous cross to bear.
Our Church has had to suffer through so many devils like her over the past 2000 years.
Moreover, it is a chastisement to our country -- to be ruled over by a demented evil entity,
and the unholy cabal of mental cases on pills and booze and red star cash
to which she clings and adheres.

It is not unusual for people who are not well trained in the Catholic, and Christian denominational, faith to have perceptions like Ms. Pelosi's. Although her regular demonstrations of stupidity are galling, coming in tandem with her constant and unrelenting abuses of power, here it is: The Catholic Church is not a political institution, even if some of, or many of its hierarchy lean that way. It is God's institution. Double period. So, any arguments, banal or lofty, re individual liberty, social issues etc. .etc. have NO bearing on our primary obedience to the example Christ set for us in establishing HIS apostolic Church. Nancy is stupid. Very very stupid. Who knew?

She is fortunate that she is not being formally excommunicated. This is so bizarre. Catholicism is not a democracy. Nor is it an à la carte menu where are you can choose what to believe and not to believe. No one can force you to be a Catholic, but if you are a Catholic, the church teachings are set out very clearly, and are not open to debate by the parishioners.

Her ego is limitless and so are her sentences. Her personal circumstances have nothing to do with the lives of Americans - but of course she thinks she's the most important person on the planet, royalty even, and what affects her affects all.

My Mom either took me to church or put me on a church bus most Sunday mornings. Baptist, Nazarene, Charasmatic, I got a wide variety of teachings growing up. I’ve felt the Holy Spirit. I’m guessing nanz had not. Mores the pity for our country.

She is joined in her theological illiteracy by the DC Bishop. The road to hell is paved with the bones of priests and monks and the skulls of bishops are the lamppost lighting the path. (St. John Chrysostom)

To quote a Johnny Cash song:
“You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down”
Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, George Soros, Putin, are all old and will very soon see whether gaining the whole world was worth losing their souls.

This is undoubtedly the best article I've read about Pelosi's bishop banning her from Holy Communion. It's about Pelosi, but even more, it's about others being encouraged to sin by her actions (scandal). His reasons are soundly grounded in Catholic canon law and in scripture, and he gave her years to change her ways. I hope a lot of other bishops follow suit. The church's position has always been "love the sinner, hate the sin," but the sinner can't continue the same sinful behavior without repercussions. Even Christ admonished the adulturous woman to avoid the same sin in the future once she was forgiven. Pelosi just kept doing the same thing, without admitting it was wrong; and encouraging others to do it as well, even though she was admonished by her bishop that it was causing scandal. She had to expect something would finally happen. I think it will take a Damascus moment for her to change.

Thank you, #4.
I am reminded of a line from the television show “Cheers” after Sam goes to confession and then complains to Carla about the penance given to him by the priest…”It’s not a religion for wimps”.
At this point, it’s not between Pelosi and the Archbishop; it’s between Pelosi and the entire Catholic Church. In her egotistical narcissistic obstinance, she needs to be excommunicated.

Pelosi, et al, treat Church membership like a religious analogue to political parties, in which the members vote periodically on their platform. As if it's "We are Catholic, and this is what we stand for." But it's more properly a faith, where membership in the faith is defined by the sharing of that faith. So it's "this is the Catholic faith, and we are the ones who ascribe to it."
The mystery of the Holy Eucharist is a sign of that unity of faith, even as it is also the grace given to achieve that unity. That dual character is not easy to balance. Lean too far to the "means" side and it becomes an edible form of the Gospel -- the Good News meant to shine always and everywhere for the life of the world. Lean too far to the "sign" side and it becomes a new circumcision -- an outward mark of separation from the rest of the world (to make visible the divide between Jew and Gentile). Each without the other becomes a stumbling block to salvation. But together, they are life-giving and build up the mystical Body of Christ.

(the membership changes over time; but the faith is unchanging)

Nancy has no understanding, obviously, of Catholic theology. For Catholics, the Church is the authority. She doesn't get to cite some provision in Scripture and interpret it to contradict Church teaching. There are many denominations that would be more in line with her views--like the Episcopalians (mostly), the Presbyterians USA, the United Church of Christ, the "Evangelical" Lutherans to name a few.

#6 The Catholic Church is run by Men (and women) who are fallible and who sin terribly. The teaching of Christ is pretty plain. Love Me, Love God, Love your neighbour. Feed the Poor. Obey the Commandments especially the Sermon on the Mount. As a young married woman, I chose birth control. That was not cafeteria Catholisism
