The Houston Police Department released bodycam video of a deadly officer-involved shooting where a suspect was accused of fatally running over a construction worker and stabbing a Montrose apartment manager. Two officers discharged their duty weapons and struck the suspect more than once. The suspect dropped the knife, but got up and attempted to flee the scene on foot.
Houston police said it all started when a man, identified as 27-year-old Ronnie Dwayne Cesear, Jr. approached a 67-year-old construction worker, Carrl Hayes, who was working in the area overnight.
Cesear stabbed Hayes with a butcher knife, then jumped into the victim’s truck and ran him over, police said.

It is just like in the movies where the evil killer is shot several times but gets up because they are possessed by an evil that keeps them going.

In the 1970s Drug addicts did this a lot because they don’t feel pain. Unless you hit the head, heart or lung they are still going.

Sometimes a 9mm automatic just doesn’t cut it. The California Highway Patrol went to .40 S&W’s years ago. After using them for a year, they ran a study and found that they never had to shoot anyone more than once.

I can understand it if he's been doing PCP (horse tranquilizer), popular in the 1970's and 80's. It also turned the person into a mental zombie too.

Handgun cartridges are very weak, which is why we use rifles in warfare or for hunting. Rifles are many times more powerful and effective than handguns. Also, people on various drugs often have little immediate reaction to bullets. Back when PCP, some sort of a powerful animal drug, IIRC, was a common street drug, I had police officer friends reporting that both billy clubs and bullets often had minimal effects until a bullet did something dramatic, like cutting the spine, or hitting the brain.
Then - peripheral hits can cause injuries which may result in minimal short term injury, and there can be widely varying reactions to different shots, with the bullet hitting just a few inches in the "less harm" direction.
This is why having the marksmanship skills to put your bullets into the heart-lung area, and having a handgun powerful enough to penetrate at least a foot are very important. In one "combat shooting" sport, a centered hit is rated 5 points, and a peripherial hit is rated one point, which is some effort to teach the importance of well centered hits.
If you learned about guns from the movies.....you didn't learn anything accurate or of much value in almost all cases.

And armchair experts are quick to criticize when a magazine is emptied into a threat. I'm very impressed that they kept their cool and didn't let the once lethal threat of a knife wielding man heading at them that they met with potentially lethal force, to cloud their judgment when he walked away switching to the taser.

The perp must've been on some strong drugs, possibly something like PCP, heroin, fentanyl, or whatever floats his boat. It's a scary thought to imagine an assailant intent on murder taking a lethal fusillade of defensive bullets, falling ... then getting back up, maybe to continue his attack. The article doesn't say whether or not the perp lived, but if he was hit well, he didn't make it, even if his body didn't react at first. In a recent crime at a shopping mall, a madman had killed a policeman, and was looking for more victims advancing. A policeman cut him down with several shots. He went down but after several seconds, he got up and started striding away. He was tasered to the ground and handcuffed. But ultimately the officer's shots were not survivable.
Perhaps you remember the infamous 11 April 1986 Miami gun battle between two bank robbers (Platt and Matix) and eight FBI agents. Two agents died, three were permanently injured, two were otherwise shot; Early in the four minute shootout Platt, armed with a Ruger Mini-14, took a fatal 9mm round from Agent Dove through the brachial artery, the bullet coming within a inch of his heart. Although he was fatally wounded and couldn't have been saved even if the wound had happened on the ER's doorstep, Platt and Matix fought on for nearly four minutes before they were killed by Agent Mireles, who had taken a terrible wound to his left arm earlier and had to pump and fire a shotgun one-handed, before ending the fight with his backup revolver. A more intense situation could scarcely be imagined.

There is a training exercise called The Mozambique Drill. Anyone who carries a gun for self defense should be familiar with it, and proficient at it.

The lethal force made perfect sense to be used first. When the offender has a deadly weapon coming toward you, deadly force can be used against the offender But I can't stop thinking about how the hell he got up with so many bullets inside him!
