Desperate mothers across the US have been forced to buy formula they know will make their babies sick as the country grapples with a shortage that has left shelves bare and has caused prices to skyrocket to $120-a-can. Wynter Balthrop, of Gallatin, Tennessee, says she broke down inside her car after driving to six stores and calling others as far as three hours away only to receive the same answer—the Enfamil's Nutramigen formula, the only her baby tolerates, was out-of-stock.(Snip)Parents across the nation are now relying on strangers across state lines who kindly buy formula when it's available, ship it to where it's intended

"Formula that they know will make babies sick"??? Is that real? Perhaps this is some special thing for abnormal children?
Again, many, many mothers somehow, "magically" were able to feed generations of children with breast milk and home made formulas for a lot of years before these big factories started creating which is seemingly just a convenience food.

"mothers are forced to buy formula they know will make babies sick"
NONSENSE
Despite FDA (one more lying Federal alphabet agency) claims, there have been no recent reports of deaths related to homemade baby formula.

My great grandmother was not able to nurse her newborn.
Her sister, my grandmother's aunt, had a baby that had just died.
She came by buggy once a day to feed her sister's baby.
Had she not, I would have never been born. Thanks Aunt Maggie!

I had no problems breastfeeding my two babies but some mothers do. Please stop saying it’s an option when, for some, it just doesn’t work. I have so much sympathy for these parents. I didn’t think it was possible to loathe biden more, but here we are.

Whatever happened to nursing your own child? I understand that not all women are able to for one reason or another, but c'mon now.

Thank you, #7. I have the same reaction to those comments. Some women cannot nurse. Also, if a baby's been on formula, do people assume that a mother can suddenly start nursing?
The discussion shouldn't be about alternatives to formula. It should be about this ridiculous shortage and which of the dem masterminds bear responsibility AND who's going to solve the problem!

Don’t look to FJB to help the situation. Goes against the abortion choice he thinks you should have made.

Clearly there are women who just cannot nurse their babies for real reasons, I don't question that at all.
However, what percentage of infant formula is for those women and what percentage is for pure convenience?
And yes, once you have dried up, I can see that restarting isn't an option. But is the percentage needed for convenience 90% or 70% or what? But, once started down the road of formula, for whatever reason, there isn't a road back to breast feeding for that infant, that is clear.
However the part that seems ENTIRELY bogus is "you can't safely make infant formula at home" and "My God, whatever you do, don't use those old formulas that you know about!"
Millions or probably tens of millions or more were fed on home made formula and are hale and healthy now in their old age. Clearly this is not impossible like the media, and apparently the formula companies would like to convince people. Is this like "ivermectin won't work" and "HCQ will poison you" and "YOU MUST get a vaccination!"???
I don't know but it seems familiar. The only way is the way the ships the most money to the big companies, nothing else is possible.....even if it worked fine for millions of babies years ago.

I was able to breastfeed my 1st without issue, had milk to spare even. I could pump, nurse, whatever. With my second I got deathly ill with Sepsis 2 weeks after her birth and ended up in the ICU on meds known to dry up milk supply just to raise my BP to levels that my brain would get enough blood to survive. I pumped and tossed milk while in the ICU just to maintain some supply. I was never able to breastfeed her all day, only in the morning when supply is largest and had to use formula in the evenings. I did my best for 6 months before my body just couldn't keep up. Sepsis takes it out of your body and I was just happy to be alive to be honest.
So, yes, breast is best but every woman and child are different and not everyone is you. Please stop with the judgey self righteous "duh, just breastfeed" stuff. I for one was very glad to have formula available and feel for these parents.
The enemy is Joe Biden!!

Indeed #7. There are some mothers who produce so much milk, that they need to bag and freeze it. Please contact an agency in your area who will come pick it up and distribute the milk to those in need.

For some babes who cannot digest cow's milk, goat can be subbed. I also recall baby formula made in the 1960's with canned whole evaporated milk with some dark Karo syrup added. Bottles were only when Mommas worked night shift.

There are recipes for making Formula... are people so inept and helpless that they can't research this subject and follow DIY instructions? How did our ancestors cross the continent and settle the nation?

Don't feed babies cows milk?! What? Most of us baby boomers were fed cows milk because it had become unfashionable for women to breast feed. It was in the 1970's when it became fashionable again and it was thought that perhaps breast milk had some advantages over cow's milk.
But these people are essentially saying cow's milk is essentially poison.
I am reminded of the Nestle powdered formula scandal in the 1970's in South America.

I know a woman who is now about 66 who fed her infants watered down canned Pet milk!
I was shocked that anyone would consider that, but her boys are alive and well.

More women can breastfeed than they think or their line would have died out. Sometimes it's hard to get started; I've seen for myself what a difference a good lactation nurse can make.
As for formula, there are recipes on the internet for such with of course the dire warnings from probably-paid hacks warning that making you own will kill your baby.

Were Mayor Buttblaster a Republican, the Marxist media would scream without cease that he was murdering babies, probably even try to tie that in with the pending dismantling of Roe v. Wade. Also, our Creator did provide a perfect way for the vast majority of women to feed their babies, although it's inconvenient to some (the primary reason usually given); not sure how many real female birthing people cannot do this, but it's got to be a small fraction.
