House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fired back at Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s criticism of the his party on Sunday, saying she has been fighting for "decades" for abortion rights in Congress and that anyone who says otherwise is "unaware" of that fight.
During an appearance on "Face the Nation," Pelosi was asked to respond to Newsom, who blamed his own party for being too passive on the abortion issue after a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion threatened to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Pope Francis recently shocked many by positing parity between Vladimir Putin and Russia on one hand, and Ukraine and NATO on the other. The Holy Father insisted both are to blame for the raging war.
In stark contrast to the "Holy Alliance" of Saint John Paul II, Ronald Reagan, and Margaret Thatcher who deployed a brilliant strategy to defeat Soviet communism, Jorge Mario Bergoglio has been channeling his youthful leftism again in a bumbling effort to relate to Russia.

The Biden administration has, at long last, finally decided to follow the law — only just a bit. And it really doesn't want people to know about it either way, which is why the announcement was made on Good Friday afternoon. After refusing to comply with a court order requiring him to sell leases for oil and gas exploration on federal land last year, Biden is finally succumbing to the pressure of high gas prices. That's the good news. The bad news is that he is selling a mere fraction of the leases the government would normally sell. This probably belongs in the category of "better than nothing."

It’s a frustrating thing about wars: In addition to death, destruction and displacement, there’s also disruption to your European vacation plans.
At least that’s how Joy Behar of "The View" saw things Thursday.
The show’s panelists were discussing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine when Behar said she feared yet another missed travel opportunity after two years of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Operation Washout 2.0,” a law enforcement operation involving multiple agencies in Central Texas, resulted in the arrest of 250 individuals, including felons and gang members, and the seizure of weapons and narcotics, authorities announced Wednesday.
“Most these individuals were not your typical ‘outstanding citizens,’” said Robert Garmon, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal.
Funded and led by the U.S. Marhals Service, the operation focused on countering gang activity in specific areas of McLennan, Bell and Coryell counties.
“This is what our citizens expect us to do is come together, put egos, attitudes, put all that away and come together and make our community safe,” said Todd Snyder, DPS Central Texas Regional Director.

Washington and California have both recently warned Black Lives Matter Global (BLM) to stop accepting donations due to a lack of transparency in their financial accounting, the Washington Examiner reported Wednesday. According to a letter acquired by the Washington Examiner, the California Department of Justice has threatened to hold BLM leaders accountable if they do not hand over details regarding the organization’s $60 million it collected in donations within the next 60 days.

The New York Times sued the State Department on Monday, seeking access to US embassy emails that mention President Joe Biden's son Hunter, court filings show.
In the lawsuit, filed at a federal court in Manhattan, lawyers for The Times requested access to emails sent by officials at the US embassy in Romania between 2015 and 2019 that contain keywords including "Hunter Biden," the filings show.

What possesses a person to travel to another country for a luxury vacation only to complain it doesn’t mimic the dystopian hellscape they came from? I wouldn’t know, but perhaps Josh Freed, a writer for the Montreal Gazette, can offer some insight. That’s exactly what he did after vacationing in Florida and then returning to his home in Quebec, Canada.
The obvious COVID hysteric penned an entire piece detailing the horrors of freedom that await those traveling to the Sunshine State, and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time.

Pooja Makhijani has written a piece for the New York Times about menstruation. Here are a few suggested edits for Makhijani’s piece, free of charge:
First, the sub-head: “Young people want alternatives to disposable tampons and pads — and they’re not embarrassed to talk about it.”
Are “young people” looking for alternatives to disposable menstrual products, or are young women? (Surely the latter since only women menstruate.)
“Still, the average menstruator can use thousands of tampons in their lifetime.”
“Menstruator”? Excuse me, but the word is woman. (Also, “their” should be her.)

When President Biden pounded his hand on a podium this week and declared “I'm tired of being quiet!” when he talked about changing Senate rules to pass voters rights legislation, Democrats immediately noticed a shift. In five words, Biden — known for working across the aisle and his relationships with Republicans —was telegraphing that the new year was ushering in a more forceful and liberated version of himself. “It’s about damn time,” said one top Democratic strategist. “It’s like they kept him on a leash for far too long. No one elected restrained Joe Biden. We elected real Joe Biden.”

Just over a year ago, millions of energized young people, women, voters of color and independents joined forces to send Joe Biden to the White House. But 12 months into his presidency, many describe a coalition in crisis.
Leading voices across Biden’s diverse political base openly decry the slow pace of progress on key campaign promises. The frustration was especially pronounced this past week after Biden’s push for voting rights legislation effectively stalled, intensifying concerns in his party that fundamental democratic principles are at risk and reinforcing a broader sense that the president is faltering at a moment of historic consequence.

MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd expressed shock over what he called a “new bottom” as President Joe Biden’s approval rating has gone down.
“I know they’re never supposed to look at the poll numbers, but, my goodness, in the last six months it does seem as if the Haley Barber saying of ‘good gets better and bad gets worse’ is been true,” said Todd on Thursday’s MTP Daily. “Every time I think the White House thought they’ve hit bottom there seems to be a new bottom.”
Comments:
Hate to say it, but Newsom is correct. The times that Democrats controlled the White House, Congress, and Senate they have not passed an abortion legalization statute. The Supreme Court does not make law, Congress does. That is basically what this draft of an opinion is saying. Without a specific provision in law, States are free to regulate abortion. The Constitution does not ever mention abortion. If it is really that important of an issue to the democrats, they should have passed a law. It seems like they want the issue as a fund-raising gimmick.
