The Writers Guild is urging Hollywood to stop film production in states that ban abortion following the leaked Supreme Court draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. On Wednesday the The Writers Guild of America West, the union that represents writers in film, television, radio and internet programming, called on their employers to not film in states that ban abortion and instead opt for locations where abortion will be preserved by state law. 'In light of the leaked #SupremeCourt draft opinion on #abortionrights, we want to reaffirm our Guild's commitment to fighting on our members' behalf against inequality and discrimination,'

Ha ha ha. These Hollywood types crack me up. When was the last time Hollywood put out a movie that anyone cared about. Haven’t been to the movies in years. But I’m planning to see 2000 Mules. If it’s ever allowed to be shown in my state of Michigan..

"urges" in this setting is by definition: "coercion"
States that lose this business can and should prosecute for Felony Restraint of Trade. The answer is always to fight back, hard.

More liberal self destruction. These fools never learn. States that ban abortion want nothing to do with these rotten liberals. Please stay away!

Georgia will be one of those states. And Georgia has a huge film industry here, second only to California.
You may hate him, but Brian Kemp did sign one of the most restrictive abortion laws that states an abortion may not take place once a fetal heartbeat is detectable. And right after that law Hollyweird said they were not going to make films here anymore. That was 2019.
2021 set a record for film industry activity in the state at over 4.1 billion.
4,100,000,000.00 > 3200.00

The affected states should ban the distribution of movies within their state that are associated with The Writers Guild of America West. Have a nice day!

Less filming equals less Writers Guild jobs. Go ahead, cut your own thròats and cause jòb losses for writers and others in the film industry.

Back in the late 1970s, when the Equal Rights Amendment was dying on the vine, lots of professional organizations vowed not to hold conferences in states that did not vote for the Equal Rights Amendment.
That threat faded away pretty quickly.

Who cares? How many citizens of a state get any benefit from a movie made in said state? For that matter, does the vast majority of citizens even know a movie or show is being shot in their state? Many of these things are shot in warehouses or late at night if on location. The trucks pull in late at night, shoot a scene, and pack up and leave before your normal citizen even knows anything was going on.

At one time almost all filming was done in California or New York. Why go elsewhere? Production costs became exorbitant in those wonderful blue states. In the long run, follow the money. Hollywood doesn't want to pay 20% to make a film that will probably lose money at the box office anyway.

I think that is absolutely the "best" thing for Hollyweird. They should shun all of the low tax red States in favor of all the high tax blue States. Just goes to show you that the economic brains in Hollyweird will financially bankrupt themselves. It would go along with their moral bankruptcy.

Does anyone even listen to people in the 'entertainment' industry? They have to be some of the most useless members of society, right up there with people that play sports for a living. I'll never understand why people support either of those useless industries.

It really doesn't matter. Hollywood hasn't produced a decent movie (with very very few exceptions) in the last 40 years.
