White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked aboard Air Force One by a reporter on Tuesday whether President Joe Biden intended to codify Roe vs. Wade into law and she bluntly pointed out that even without the filibuster, there just weren’t enough votes to pass a federal abortion law.
Psaki was en route to Alabama when she was quizzed over Roe vs. Wade. That occurred not too long after Biden made comments on the leaked draft opinion by the Supreme Court that was given to Politico, indicating it would overturn the landmark abortion case.

He vowed to “codify” it. His word. Does that red-haired witch ever tire of cleaning up after Zhou?

She's got the eyes of a shark that one.
"The thing about a shark, it's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When it comes at you it doesn't seem to be live'n...until (s)he bites you, then those black eyes roll over white."
Psaki to a T.

Why has this not been decided by each state by vote? It would settle a lot of problems.

I am neither a lawyer nor a jurist. Just a citizen who understands English. When they say 'codify' which part of the Constitution are they going to rely on to pass a law which will stand up to an honest court review? There simply is no 'right' to an abortion mentioned by the US Constitution, even under the camouflage of a right to privacy - which also does not exist.. What exists is a right to life which every person including an unborn naturally possesses. .

Joe voted for a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v Wade.
Anyone ask about that?

Also, unconstitutional and the same SCOTUS would overturn the law. And... The GOP will have the House, Senate, and Presidency (Trump) in a couple of years - and they would simply repeal it.
Da-dum. Da-dum. Da-dum da-dum da ... Chomp - Biden's going to need a bigger plan.

This says alot. Those in congress and the senate are there to REPRESENT their constituents. If their constituents demanded unfettered abortion, they would vote for it. Therefore, we must surmise that the people are not demanding it, and as usual the loudmouths on the left make lots of noise to make themselves appear bigger than they really are.

It would be a piece of cake to 'codify' abortioin into law. Sure nothing in the written constitution would give power to the legislature to enact a federal law. However, thanks to Supreme Joke Chief Just-Us Roberts and his lackey liberal Just-Uses, there is a way. All congress has to do is declare all child bearing age women must get an abortion. If they don't, they have to pay a tax. Obambicare, the gift that keeps giving congress power it never should have had.

They simply don't have the votes to pass a federal law legalizing abortion and never have. Even if they did, what the leaked SCOTUS opinion suggests is that abortion is outside federal purview. It is a STATE issue. Apparently even a few dems know this and wouldn't vote for such a law.
The federal government has, for decades, gobbled up control by passing laws that are not supported by the Constitution, which is essentially a document that describes the limited powers of the federal government and CLEARLY says that all other issues devolve to the states or the people. Unfortunately, our liberal court system has let them get away with it or makes up law by judicial fiat when Congress couldn't get the votes. This is the wonderfulness of having a truly Conservative majority on the SCOTUS that simply says, "That's not the business of the federal government.".

Unfortunately, the abortion industry is a very big business who spend massive amounts of money electing very liberal and progressive Democrats.
They've enjoyed a form of anti-trust immunity in the sense no other law could impact their industry since it had been "decided" by Roe and Casey decisions.
Yet, nearly every state has laws on their books that limit or restrict abortions, even California. Some state have not updated their laws since Roe and may not allow abortions, initially, but would presume Michigan, for instance, would allow some form of abortions.
Then, you have to ask why all of those states updated or still went through the process of enacting laws for their state if they felt Roe and Casey were decided on solid legal foundation?

This is why the uniparty refused to touch it before, and sent it to SCOTUS. No elected official wants the label, "baby-killer" applied to them.

Abortion is a SCOTUS thing. Abortion has been permitted only because SCOTUS said it was a "right" so therefore no legislation was necessary to make it legal. There have never been enough votes in Congress to make it law. Psaki knows the math even if Biden doesn't. The America people certainly don't know this because of liberal spin and suppression of information. If a federal law is not passed, state laws banning or limiting abortion cannot be challenged in federal court if Alito's opinion is adopted.

They can't win fair and square through normal channels by debating and passing legislation, so they want to cheat by dismembering the Constitution. Then they whine and scream if someone stands in the way of that.

Sleepy Joe is one banana peel away from meeting his Maker. Flapping his gums may only land him some extra time in purgatory. But codifying Roe vs. Wade might just land him in the Hot Spot -- and I'm not talking about Epstein's fantasy island. He's within spitting distance of St. Peter!

You beat me to it #18. Thank goodness for ultrasounds. AND ultrasound videos. My son and his wife sent us their ultrasound for our first grandchild. At 9 weeks baby is moving, and we delight in watching his/her hands and ten little fingers and toes, spinning and moving and waving arms. It’s truly God’s miracle. Who could look at that and think it’s ok to snuff the life out of this beautiful tiny human!
