Whoever leaked Justice Samuel Alito’s draft opinion in a crucial abortion-rights case violated a key tenet of the Supreme Court — and might even have committed a crime, legal experts said Tuesday.“It is a core, central principle of working there to keep everything confidential,” said Washington, DC, lawyer Bill Burck, a former federal prosecutor who clerked for former Justice Anthony Kennedy..If the leaker is a clerk — or even one of the court’s nine justices — “it’s hard to see how a crime was committed” because the document isn’t classified and they’d have a right to possess it, Burck said.

I'm sure someone can find the crime, they never have a problem doing that part if they want.
Finding who snagged the paper is very unlikely to happen without the unfortunately now common FBI raid.

I’m of the opinion they knew within hours who the leaker is.
The question is: what will be done?

So slap a status of "Confidential" on all of their work and require all justices and interns to sign out everything they work on. It won't stop the leaking but it will finger the people who handled the information.
We describe these people as "Honorable" without justification because too many of them are not. Trust but Verify.

It's DC.
96% Dem.
Better if the Supreme Court finds the perp in contempt and just puts him away until they all cool down about this misdeed.
A "jury" would let him walk.

If it was a digital copy, the metadata would be traceable to any party. If is was a printed hard copy, unless the court uses watermarked paper, would be tougher. If we had a real FBI, they could possibly track cell phone location data to see who met who.

Alan Dershowitz has said there aren't any laws to prevent this, the person lacks the ethics to work at the SC or as a lawyer.

Could. Won't.
We know how this script plays out.
It's like a suicide bomber's promise of 72 virgins. This will result in a lost job and disbarment, but followed up with a cushy think tank or D-leaning 'consultant' job paying the big $$$.

I think the author had a good point, ask all of the people who may have had contact with the document (including office cleaners and security) and when they all say no they didn't do it then come forth with the proof of yes he/she did do it. That would then be the broken law--lying to investigators. This of course assumes that the leaker can be identified by the FBI which is unlikely since the leaker is likely a dim and the FBI is a dim organization.

Dershowitz and Turley are probably correct.
Plus, If the clerk is a foreigner, and is the perp, not being able to practice law in the U,S, is no punishment at all.
Whatever the outcome, the Supreme Court has been changed forever.
And one other thing - I asked my son yesterday to go make a copy of something, because our copier is malfunctioning, and he said he could
do it with his cell phone - made a pdf and sent it to my email. Perhaps that was the method at the SC, and they should ban cell phones.

More like leaker of Alito's draft has inked a multimillion dollar contract with MSDNC as a legal analyst.

Criminal charges would be good.
How about Comey, McCabe, Clapper, Brennan, and the other of the three dozen criminals who ran the FBI, CIA and DoJ? They deserve criminal charges, too, but nothing at all happening there.

Clearly the DC swamp has been living in a different universe than the “outside” the DC beltway 50 States that make up the USA. In that respect, the DC swamp creatures, both politicians and bureaucrats consider themselves to be special “insiders” who are to be listened to, and their congressional and interagency bureaucratic “system” advice followed in all respects without question even by an elected President.
Trump who was the ultimate “outsider” in DC during his term in office, did not go along with that “insider” crap as an outside the DC beltway populist, and you can bet that he will be a lot smarter in dealing with the DC swamp creatures if he is elected to the Presidency in the 2024 election.

I for one have zero faith in the gooberment to effect a change in this kind of behavior. Most likely it's a democrat, so there goes any prosecution. As far as the fbi finding out the who- fugghedaboudit.

Sure, right after the team of FBI agents finds who made the noose at Bubba's garage at the car racetrack. Applying the law only applies to charging conservatives, republicans and Trump it ends there. SOTW (slap on the wrist) if it's a liberal.

"Leaker of Alito’s draft opinion could face criminal prosecution: legal experts" ... and the Sun will rise in the West
- I just hope the repubs in the House and Senate remember these events when, or if, they gain control this year and then bring every demcommie behind the woodshed for a good whipping, forget about this good friend stuff they all talk about, these people represent us and we are angry so, I expect them to be just as angry and do the correct thing and dismantle the demcommie representation in congress to a babbling mass of protoplasm one step below the amoeba stage

The timing of the leak - the evening before the release of the "2000 Mules" movie - and the uniformity and suddenness of the Left's response, tells me that this was planned well in advance. Not only are they -led by UpChuck Schumer- trying to intimidate the Supreme Court, it allows the Leftist 'Lamestream' media to ignore the Vote Fraud documented in the movie.
Whoever 'leaked' this document has already arranged to be Well Compensated, my guess is to the tune of several Million$, courtesy of one or more of the left-wing Billionaires lurking in our midst, who are intent on wrecking the society that made them so filthy rich.

A slap on the wrist, then skates. Even if disbarred, he/she will be a media darling, 21st Century Rosa Parks.
And yes, I will cover all bets.
