On Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments in the case of Joseph Kennedy, a junior varsity head coach from Washington state’s Bremerton School District who was fired in 2015 after praying at the 50-yard line after games. The justices will reportedly be looking at two separate issues in the case before issuing their ruling. First, whether the coach praying by himself within view of others including students amounted to unprotected “government speech,” and second, if it is not, in fact, unprotected “government speech,” would it still present issues under the First Amendment, specifically the Establishment Clause?

Do you realize that this court case involves the alleged "need" for students to "protected" from hearing someone acknowledge God?
PROTECTED ?
And does one need to be protected from hearing about anal sex?
I will choose to hear God. He loves me.

Protected is pretty weird word.
I’m Jewish and don’t care what people do. I had some unpleasant instances in the Army when I decline d to participate in another religion’s prayers. And that’s materially different to me.
I get that a lot of folks think mandatory participation in Nazarene prayer should be required. I disagree.
I also think if Nazarenes want to pray openly that’s their business
I do wonder what people would this coach was a Muslim praying to Mecca in the 50 yard line whilst pressuring students to join him.

It appears the only coercion in any of this on the part of the government (school). They came up with a lot of lame justifications for their view but in the end, what really bothers them is the fear that prayer just might help the students perform better. Where would that leave them at the end of their lives?

Taking a knee in prayer at a sporting event is an unlawful act.
Taking a knee during the playing of our National Anthem at a sporting event is protected activism.
Are you confused ?

My first thought was akin to #2: If after a game a coach began "twerking" on the 50-yard line, would that be a problem? According to the wise Latina only if wearing a Nazi swastika. The people who seem afraid of the display of Nazi paraphernalia are the new Nazi's of Great Reset, so they try to tie Christianity to Nazism. Anything to deflect from the truth of their ambitions.
Projection: the ability to deflect one's sins onto the opponent. It didn't work for the Roman Caesars, it won't work for the Woke Caesars either. Christianity was born in persecution and thrives whenever it is practiced by the powers that be. The Cross of Christ will Triumph!

P.S. "Progressivism" may well be the greatest evangelical device ever devised by Satan's minions. In its own way, its is a great cosmic joke!

Yes, if the coach was a Muslim, our Constitution guarantees him “freedom of religion” also, not freedom FROM.
Sadly, this is now the ‘dem woke’ school board agenda showing up too often a la xiden.

When first nominated and confirmed to the supreme court ( small-case first letters are deliberate), I thought Sotomayor’s self-proclamation as a “wise Latina” was nothing but narcissistic self-delusion. Her statements, like this one, reveals her idiocy.

Think of it, you are fired for a motivational speech with religious implications and connotations but encouraged to talk about playing with yourself and mutilating
your genitalia.
School administrators are nuts.

Sotomayor and bizarre go well together in the same sentence don’t they? She still reminds me of Lou Costello, who at least was funny.

Long ago , when I was in high school, students would be let out at 2 Pm on Thursday to attend religious schooling OUTSIDE of our school; Any one who wanted to do so was allowed to. The students who remained in school had a 'homeroom'. No one complained, no one sued, no one called the FBI, no one even thought twice about it, no matter what their religion. Of course, most things made sense in those days. Any senior I speak with today says the same thing, that the World has changed for the worse. We also had a Christmas concert, ( NOT a Holiday concert ), in which Jewish students participated, and enjoyed. They were not offended and did not feel they were being brainwashed . Our current society is filled with so many WOKE weaklings who cannot think for themselves.

#3, bring up the point that in a JudeoChristian country we accept that certain beliefs are inimical to the Constitution.
And as a Sovereign country, have the right to say that.
Irving Berlin agrees with me.

We used to be a country with freedom of religion, now they're pushing freedom from religion...except they are very selective which religion they attempt to punish....

The only bizarre question I could think of coming from the Wide Latina would be, " Can we just skip lunch and continue working on this problem?"

To prove that the whole country is now Bizarro World: The goal of government and private industry used to be to put the best people in charge. We now have a president, vice president and cabinet chosen from among 360 million Americans who are the worst possible choices they could have hand picked. We have nine justices chosen from tens of thousands of judges, four of whom are affirmative action idiots and we have a congress made up of people the majority of whom have criminal records and are not very bright. Those are the best of the bunch. New recruits like AOC, Omar and Tlaib are young, stupid, selfish criminals who have all dishonored their positions and have broken many civil and moral laws. Private industry has also gone in a similar direction, hiring girls and boys right out of school to be CEOs to replace people like Lee Iacoca, Jack Welch, Ross Perot, who may not have been woke or wildly popular but they realized why they were running companies. That ninny who runs GM is going to run it right into the ground. Our universities have gone from being guided by scholars to being infiltrated with perverts, pedophiles and leftist loons.
