House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California and former President Trump are on good terms following the leaked audio recording in which McCarthy said he was going to recommend the former president resign following the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.
A source with knowledge of the conversation confirmed to Fox News Digital that the Republican leader and the former president spoke on the phone after the audio was leaked.
Trump and McCarthy are on good terms, according to the source. The Washington Post first reported on the call between Trump and McCarthy.
On Thursday, the New York Times reported on a recording from Jan. 10, 2021 where McCarthy

Fake controversy. So what if McCarthy asked Trump to resign, a lot of people were doing that at the time and not all of them were Lincoln Project perverts. Trump didn't, and that was the right way to respond, so not an issue. It's not like McCarthy screamed about it when he didn't. Fake, fake, fake controversy.

I'm sorry, but Trump has proven to have terrible instincts about personnel. McCarthy is the enemy.

McCarthy is just another Boehner, Ryan or Hastert wanting to become Speaker. Do not trust this person.

Trump and McCarthy no doubt did talk, but we all know Trump knows McCarthy is net-no-good [as well as McConnell], and both need to go.

Isn't this the first story the Murdoch media has run on the Cheney tape? Fox executive Pau Ryan covering for his protege Kevin McCarthy.

Matt Gaetz said McCarthy will not be made to resign. He is the top money raiser ever. That's too bad.

So, am I to understand that it is reasonable for Donald Trump to withdraw his support for Mo Brooks, congressman from Alabama running for an open US Senate seat but all is kosher with McCarthy? There is no linearity to the former presidents thought pattern.

There is more that is unsaid. Trump will not forget or forgive. For the moment, McCarthy/McConnell are on the back burner. Trump knows the importance of getting the house/senate switched to republican. Then the next step will be the removal of these two clowns.

Donald Trump will be a total fool if he trusts McCarthy in the slightest. Trump needs fighters, not weaklings like McCarthy.

I'd like to think that after his 4 years in office, spent fighting dems, RINO's and back-stabbing deep state Republicans, PDT has a better grasp of who you can trust. Keep your enemies close, as the saying goes! Unfortunately, it looks like there is no one in DC that he can trust!

Pardon the second post, please, but the Senate likely would be in R control if PDJT had not advised Georgia GOP voters to stay home. I like the man but it is him first, everything else second. Sure hope we have Desantis as nominee next.

McCarthy probably lied to #45 but being the wisest of the wise #45 saw through is and is letting is slide but ... don't anyone believe he hasn't already figured out his next move(s) - #45 is always the smartest person in the room, no matter where he goes

Do not mistake Trump's being diplomatic with being on good terms. Nobody likes McCarthy except maybe his mother.

Of the 4 on the call,
ALL but cheney voted on jan 6 to reject/decertify the counts from AZ/PA,
ALL voted against the Dem's Jan 6 commission,
ALL still assert that the election was flawed/foul/and corrupted.
Most if not all voted to oust Cheney from the Repub. Caucus.
