In an age when more people than ever seem to have lost the open secret to happiness – gratitude, perspective, friends, family, etc. – and gone all-in on political ideologies, it’s worth remembering that life is fleeting. It might include suffering, but without the pain there would be no way to feel true pleasure. When God created man and made the human condition one of suffering, He did so with the purpose that it would allow us to feel joy as well. A terrific follow on Twitter, Zuby, posed a question the other day about the weighing of youth, advanced age, and the holding of wealth.

My first choice with be neither. But if I had to choose, I would rather have the money. I could do a lot of good with that amount of money. 80 isn't that old in my family, so I'd still have some good years. Yep, I'd take 80 and money.

you have no clue about the wealth of memories an 80yo possesses...and the wisdom a 20 year may never even acquire. That being said, given a magic/hypothetical choice of this sort? I'd split the difference...chose to be 40 with half the money, or Heck, even 1/10th of it.

Since I've experienced being 20 and broke and won't ever experience 80 with a hundred million, I'll take 20 and broke. At 20, one still has their entire life to obtain a lot of money. As I remember, I had a pretty good time being 20 with little money. At 80, your already past the average life expectancy, and unless you're in good health, you won't be able to enjoy all that money and you're most likely to spend that money paying for healthcare costs.

This is what's known in economics as the "Time Value of Money". $100 million 80 years in the future must be discounted to present value dollars at some assumed rate of return. Being broke at 20 with no money to invest is actually worth $0 at any future time. Being 20 without a job and addicted to drugs also diminishes its future value since you will probably not be able to earn and save even enough to be self-sufficient. The actual answer is that being alive, healthy, and competent at 80 with $100 million means you have the present capacity to make a difference in the world. You could donate to cancer research, or create public spaces like art museums and libraries, or do any of the many things wealthy philanthropists do to benefit fellow humans and get their name on a plaque for all time. The mistake most people make is that they think very wealthy people only want to spend their wealth on a lavish lifestyle filled with "stuff". Above a certain point this is futile and no longer provides satisfaction. People with serious wealth either learn this lesson early or self-destruct pursuing fleeting pleasure.

For me it’s a tough call because I was so immature and much of the time an anal opening. I was unhappy in three jobs and didn’t find my calling until my early thirties. There were some very good times, but I was aimless until I got into my life’s work. In the end, nothing beats youth and good health. So be a young jerk while trying to find oneself.

God did not make " the human condition one of suffering"; MAN made " the human condition one of suffering". God gave man the free choice and that's what man chose. It's only by God's grace that he allows joy into man's life...most notably, the joy of salvation in His Son Jesus.

I’d go back to 20 if I were able to correct stupid mistakes that I made AND if I could have the wisdom that I possess now. Otherwise, I’d continue to ask the Lord for forgiveness and have a lot of fun giving that $100 million away.

The last time the state of South Carolina executed an inmate was over ten years ago, when Jeffrey Motts was put to death in 2011 for the crime of having strangled a fellow inmate while serving a life sentence for another murder. But in less than two weeks, another convict in the Palmetto State may be put to death for his crimes, and we now know the method that will be used. Richard Bernard Moore is set to be executed on April 29th, and per South Carolina law he has been given the option to choose between the electric chair and firing squad for his mode of death.

Amid the churn of recent headlines about inflation and the war in Ukraine, you might have missed what’s happening right now on the southwest border — not the ongoing border crisis, but something very much related to it. For the past few days, commercial traffic between the United States and Mexico has ground to a halt. On Monday, Mexican truckers blocked north and southbound lanes on the Mexico side of the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge in Pharr, Texas. They did it to protest Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision last week to order state troopers to inspect all northbound commercial trucks

The Pennsylvania legislature heard this testimony, backed up by email evidence, on Tuesday during the first public hearing on two new bills seeking to block private grants. Tuesday’s public hearing began with statements by the respective primary sponsors of the bills that seek to ban dark money from elections, with Sen. Lisa Baker speaking in support of Senate Bill 982 and Rep. Eric Nelson encouraging passage of House Bill 2044.

Last week, a Louisiana appellate court reinstated Attorney General Jeff Landry’s lawsuit challenging Mark Zuckerberg’s infiltration of the state election system with private “Zuck Bucks” that flooded the country during the 2020 election. The lawsuit, State of Louisiana v. Center for Tech and Civic Life, originated in October 2020. That’s when Louisiana, through Landry, sought a court order declaring that “private contributions to local election officials and the election system in general are unlawful and contrary to Louisiana law.” Landry’s lawsuit followed attempts by the Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life to dole out millions in targeted grants to election officials throughout the state.

There are many in there who committed all manner of horrific crimes but who, whether because of life experience or their own sense of justice, don’t take kindly to those who abuse children. In fact, “don’t take kindly” is quite an understatement. The White House said this week it plans to release up to 180 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves, a million barrels a day for 180 days, to help bring down near-record gas prices that were climbing before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but have since spiked. It will be the largest release of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve since it was established in the early 1970s, and it probably won’t work. The specific reasons it probably won’t work — congestion on the Gulf Coast, a possible reduction in supply from Saudi Arabia and other oil producers,

The New York Times published an op-ed Friday that proposes eliminating belief in God — as one of the holiest weekends of the year begins. Titled “In This Time of War, I Propose We Give Up God,” the article claims that God is responsible for “war and violence” and for “oppression and suffering,” and suggests that people stop teaching children about Him. Author Shalom Auslander, who is disillusioned about his upbringing in a religious Jewish community in New York, argues (original emphasis): God, it seems, paints with a wide brush. He paints with a roller. In Egypt, said our rabbi, he even killed first-born cattle.
