Prayers answered: North Dakota horses
saved after rancher battles blizzard

The blizzard of 2022 will be remembered for generations to come on a small North Dakota ranch nestled in the heart of Stark County. When the snowstorm hit, Hollie Wilson knew it was going to be bad. She prepared and then prepared more, thinking it would be enough. But it wasn't. "People said we didn't prepare. Rest assured, we definitely did. We just never imagined that this would have been this bad," said Wilson, the owner of Rockin’ 33 Performance Horses in South Heart. Her seven horses were covered in ice and shivered uncontrollably for three days. Snowdrifts, some as tall as 10-feet, trapped them inside their barn

Comments:

I'm glad the horses are OK, sounds pretty miserable.
The folks say that a winter storm like this hasn't been seen in 25 years.
That danged Global Warming is so cold and snowy Who'd have guessed it?

Hot or cold, fossil fuels are to blame. No wonder they will not publish their research.

Re #3. I like horses, glad these made it through the bad weather. Sounds like a helacious blizzard. I've been through some deep snow and -10F temps in the mountains of Colorado, and mountains of Wyoming, but that sounds like more snow than I've ever seen. Glad I don't live in N. Dakota. I haven't had any horse since I was a teen, too much trouble. But, I have hunted with several different outfitters with horses for many days at a time, and rode them pretty extensively as a teen. They are big, powerful animals and can really hurt you ( I have been seriously hurt) but they are very useful for travel in wilderness areas, too, and can be pretty friendly if you understand their special ways and don't spook them.

There were/are 10's of thousands of "Wild" horses out there that had to deal with it without even a roof or a wind break...and have been doing so for hundreds of years.

Scientific data shows that the climate has consistently and naturally changed for billions of years, so yes, when we have late damaging frosts, they are caused by natural climate change. I hope a lot of money and time wasn’t wasted in coming to this logical conclusion. Democrats in Florida have had a bad run of it since DeSantis got elected. What used to be a 50-50 purple state has, under his wise leadership and immensely popular initiatives, become bright red. As if that weren’t enough to give what Democrats in Florida that still hold onto Congressional seats heartburn, things might soon get a good bit worse for them: DeSantis is pushing a major redistricting plan that could harness the state’s population growth and use it to give Republicans yet more seats. You see, the legislature had created and passed, along party lines, a map that was favorable to the GOP. However, because of certain problems with it,

There is a trucker shortage... and it's worse every year. This is not news; this national driver shortage is no shock to businessmen or policymakers. Our driver shortage contributes to empty store shelves, idled assembly lines, retail price inflation, a reduced Gross Domestic Product, and the global supply chain crisis. This is not just one industry’s problem; it’s everybody’s problem. What is odd, however, is that so many people believe the trucker shortage is caused entirely by not enough people choosing the profession of truck driving as a career. While that is certainly a part of it, it's not our real problem. Our truck driver shortage is caused by government policies

Medical marijuana has been legalized in 37 states, but a new study released Friday found that the drug had no benefit for those treating pain, depression, or anxiety. Moreover, a significant number of people in the study who used marijuana for medical purposes developed cannabis use disorder, also known as marijuana addiction, the study found. The study was conducted by the Massachusetts General Hospital. “People with pain, anxiety or depression symptoms failed to report any improvements, though those with insomnia experienced improved sleep,” said the study’s lead author, Jodi Gilman, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Depression and anxiety are some of the conditions most commonly treated with marijuana.

Even if you think Russia has some legitimate grievances, this war thing is not good. M’kay? It’s a horrible waste of life and property, and it will hardly just be the civilians of Ukraine and Russia paying a steep economic price. But it would never have happened if Russia couldn’t afford the world’s third-largest military — with only the 11th-largest GDP. Where is it getting the hard currency to oil that war machine (pun intended)? It’s essentially fossil fuel exports to our NATO allies, and especially the largest of them, Germany. And yes, even some exports to the United States.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read in AT the recent article by Dan Truitt on the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Almost word by word, it repeated the Russian propaganda that is being fed by the "Ministry of Truth" in Moscow. Mr. Truitt claims that "virtually no one in the U.S. has got this right, including conservative outlets and pundits." What arrogance! By these words, he claims a possession of the ultimate knowledge of the roots and causes of the current events. Really?

None of the characters consulted -- a grab bag of various clowns such as a dog-make-up specialist, a guy who said his own name over and over, AnnaLynne McCord, the blonde Hollywood ditz who recited Putin poetry claiming he needed a better mother

Loomer, who has been characterized as a Right-wing activist and the most canceled woman in Florida, looks to have a real shot to win after embarking on a grassroots campaign that seems to be blanketing the district.

Mayor Eric Adams was elected largely based on his promise to return order to New York City. While early indications point to his moving in the right direction, I fear that factors beyond his control will hinder reaching that goal. I recently retired as a sergeant after serving 29 years with the NYPD. I grew up in Queens and attended Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn. I still live in the city. I spent my entire career on patrol and in plainclothes Anti-Crime and Street Narcotics Enforcement Units (SNEU) in the South Bronx and Harlem. I came on the job in 1991 when the city had more than 2,000 homicides.

The New York Times published an op-ed Friday that proposes eliminating belief in God — as one of the holiest weekends of the year begins. Titled “In This Time of War, I Propose We Give Up God,” the article claims that God is responsible for “war and violence” and for “oppression and suffering,” and suggests that people stop teaching children about Him. Author Shalom Auslander, who is disillusioned about his upbringing in a religious Jewish community in New York, argues (original emphasis): God, it seems, paints with a wide brush. He paints with a roller. In Egypt, said our rabbi, he even killed first-born cattle.
