This Sunday is Easter, which makes this Holy Week, and today Holy Thursday.
It got me to thinking about the movie “The Passion of the Christ.” I bought the DVD years ago, with every intention of watching it shortly thereafter. But, for some reason, I never could quite bring myself to do so. I’m not sure what it was that was holding me back – I’m a believer and obviously familiar with the story of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection, but I suppose the idea of actually seeing it recreated in (what I’d been forewarned was) graphic detail was a bit more daunting than reading about it in the Bible

Thank you for posting this. I also find the crucifixion scene tremendously horrific and extremely hard to watch. But in spite of the horror my Savior knew he would face, He made that sacrifice for me and all others who chose to receive His free gift. I make it a point to thank Him every day for that because I know I don't deserve it. I am grateful for everything He does for me.
Happy Easter everyone!

How much did He love you? This much:
As the Second Member of the Trinity, Jesus came to this Earth as the perfect Son of God through a virgin pregnancy, where He lived a sinless life, fulfilling over 100 Old Testament Prophecies as a sign to Israel their Messiah had arrived. But He would be rejected by His people, where they would try Him in six illegal trials, where He was slapped, beaten, whipped, and spit on, without ever crying out.
("As the lamb before the shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth")
All these events were moving Christ to become the "Perfect Lamb of God," who would "hang on a tree," for six hours, during which time God the Father would judge the sins of the entire human race in His body over a three hour period, during which time a supernatural darkness surrounded the cross to hide His agony. It was during that time that Jesus Christ, the Eternal God and Creator of the Universe, was made sin for us and separated from God the Father and God the Holy Spirit, as Perfect God can have nothing to do with sin, but to judge it. Jesus voluntarily accepted this "separation death" for each of us! At the end of this horrible "spiritual death" Jesus said in Aramaic, "Tetelestai," which means, "It is finished." His Salvation Work was complete, as there is no more to be done. That separation was unique in all eternity - God offering an incredible sacrifice for vile, wicked, evil mankind. Jesus would rise from the tomb after three days, as the "sign of Jonah," to proclaim His victory over death for all mankind and would remain on Earth 40 more days speaking before crowds of hundreds before Ascending to Heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father. We have His Salvation, His Word, His Spiritual Life, and the Holy Spirit to help us in our lives, all thanks to Him.
Each of us have a chance to accept the free grace gift of Eternal Life through the completed work of Jesus Christ on that Roman cross. Salvation is available by saying, in the privacy of one's own soul, "Father, I understand what Jesus Christ did for me in providing my eternal salvation and I believe in Him."
That is the moment of salvation with the believer's new eternal home becoming Heaven. Faith alone, in Christ alone as God's grace gift to all mankind.

#3 - Thank you, for your beautiful testimony. I was especially struck by your sentence, "His Salvation Work was complete, as there is no more to be done."
You reminded me of a Truth that I needed to hear this Good Friday. My Godson/nephew is a lost soul. Unfortunately, his mother (my sister) made the mistake of giving him "easy money" during and after college, and supports him to this day. At age 45 he is still an angry and unhappy teenager.
He loved fishing as a kid and dreamed of being a fishing boat captain. He began college with the goal of being an oceanographer, but by his sophomore year changed to "environmental science" as that was less vigorous. He pledged a fraternity and adopted the "Animal House" lifestyle. He was drunk at his eventual graduation. I'll give him credit that in order to fulfill his dream as a boat captain, he took a job on a commercial fishing boat for several years. In that time he began to get tattoos that eventually lead to a skull on his neck. After a few seasons he quit his fishing job and then let his hair go Rastafarian. He began to insist his name is "I'man Freeman". (What a hoot!) It was during this time my sister began to give him money...just to tide him over. He hasn't had a job since, because "I'm sick". My sister pays his rent and he has use of her credit card, on which he charges about $2,000 a month.
He is anti-God, and falls for every scam "real history" video on You Tube. He sends them to me accompanied by screeds against the Catholic Church. He sent me another bunch on Holy Thursday and, as usual, didn't like my "fact checking". The replies I received today, on Good Friday, were hate-filled. I realized Satan was using the Sacred Triduum to attack me through this lost soul. I've been mournfully praying for him all day, until I read "His Salvation Work was complete, as there is no more to be done."
I stood before God and promised I would guide my Godson's precious soul in this earthly life towards Eternal Life. I claimed his soul for Christ that day of his Baptism, and I will never give him up to Satan's minions to torture forever. This life has been enough. His soul will be saved. Jesus, I trust in you.
