Will Smith Must Return His Oscar to Restore
the Award’s Honor

The Motion Picture Academy’s decision to ban Will Smith from Oscar ceremonies and events for 10 years as discipline for slapping Chris Rock is little more than an extended time out for a playground bully. It’s a toothless penalty that lays bare the shallowness of Hollywood morals. At this point, the only person who can redeem the integrity of the Oscars is Smith himself. He needs to come to grips with the gravity of the offense he committed: slapping Rock, live on March 27 in front of millions on the Academy Awards stage. Smith needs to express-mail his golden trophy back to the Academy and publicly state something to the effect of: “Out of respect

If Smith returned his statute to the Academy, it would look like a cheap publicity stunt. Smith won the award. The statue is merely a symbol of his award. Enough already about Smith and his Oscar.

I don't care about the movies, the people who make them or the Oscars. This is not about the Oscars. It is about the obvious observation that everyone is afraid to mention. Why do so many people (especially men but women are in on it too) in the black community over react to a situation with violence. Maybe this helps to explain why they kill each other at such a high rate. Blacks do not need to fear the police. They have a greater threat of being murdered by another black. Obviously this problem occurs in all socio economic groups. Can't get much higher than Will Smith or lower than the neighborhood drug thug using excessive force. I have worked in elementary or middle school for the past 31 years. It's all ages. Learning early no doubt at home.

If I were Will Smith, I'd tell them what to do with the "demand" that he return his Oscar. I'm sure there are many other un-savory types who have won Oscars, Emmys, or other Hollywood award shows that have done much, much worse and weren't asked to return those awards. By the way, does Andrew Cuomo get to keep his Emmy for telling everyone how he killed all the grannies in New York? While I don't condone what WIll did, I know if somebody was up on stage insulting my wife, if I didn't do something about it, I am convinced my wife would never let me forget it. All this hullabaloo about very little. Story of America these days.

Inflation accelerated in March to a new four-decade high as the Russian war in Ukraine fueled rapid price gains for oil and gas that wiped out the benefits of rising wages for most Americans. The consumer price index rose 8.5% in March from a year ago, according to a new Labor Department report released Tuesday, marking the fastest increase since January 1982, when inflation hit 8.4%. The CPI – which measures a bevy of goods ranging from gasoline and health care to groceries and rents – jumped 1.2% in the one-month period from January. They’re citing analysts from FactSet that expect the new number to be 8.4 percent, the highest inflation rate since December 1981. That’s up from the rate from last month, which was 7.9 percent. Some of that will be reflecting the high gas prices that have since moderated somewhat. However, even without counting gas and food, the forecast is 6.6 percent, the highest since August 1982.
