The Sunday before the Masters is usually a sleepy affair at Augusta National, as the early arrivals check in and a cathedral hush settles over the place one last time before the gates open on Monday. Not this year. Not today. Indeed, if they were allowed, the American press would probably form a cavalcade down Magnolia Lane, checking every courtesy car for confirmation that this year's field really will include Tiger Woods.Every fascinating storyline regarding the 86th edition appears on pause until we know definitively one way or the other.

As the only one of golf's four major championships to be played at the same course every year, the Masters is in a category of one. Unquestionably one of America's greatest inland courses, Bobby Jones's Augusta National Golf Club is a physical treasure, a former nursery with its huge mature trees, unbelievable topography, and Alister MacKenzie layout, always providing plenty of thrills for golf fans. Each year the golfing world awaits early April.
With fifteen professional major championships and 82 total Tour victories, Tiger Woods, now the same age as Nicklaus was when Jack won his sixth Masters (and eighteenth professional major) in 1986, is without any doubt the greatest player of the past generation (with Phil Mickelson in second and Vijay Singh in third, but they're well behind). Any tournament is a bigger event just because he's there. Knowing what I know about Tiger, he will not play unless he believes he can contend. His injuries in last year's wreck required extensive surgery and rods in his bones. He rehabilitation had to have been painful, and probably still is, each day. However, each time I have thought that Tiger couldn't come back, he amazed me and came back.
Yet that great line from Bob Dylan's "Mississippi" comes to mind: "You can always come back, but you can’t come back all the way." Or can he?

I don't care what color he is, Tiger is a great player. He has messed up in the past and ultimately paid the price for his transgressions. I grew up in Augusta and watched Ben Hogan and other greats play. I only wish I could have watched Tiger. I wish him well and hope to see him on TV this week.

Tiger has been practicing at Augusta for some time. He won't play unless he really thinks he can compete. I think his biggest challenge won't be hitting the shots but walking the course. Walking that course or any course for four days in a row takes a toll on the body, and Tigers not that far removed from the accident.

"All eyes?" I have eyes and I don't watch golf, curling, hockey, etc. The only thing interesting that ever happened in the world of golf was Arnold Palmer once hit a ball that landed on a snake which refused to move. Officials had a long debate about what Palmer could do. Well, maybe Lee Trevino being hit by lightening.

Let’s see if he crashes and totals his free tournament vehicle this time while drunk and high.

I won't feel deprived if he doesn't show up and suck the air out of the tournament.
I assume someone else qualified to compete won't get to play if that extra slot is filled.
I hope that possible alternative is being allowed practice rounds.
Prediction, Woods plays a round or two, basks in the glow of the only spotlight and limps off into the sunset, putting Lee Trevino to shame for theatrics.
