The House of Representatives voted Friday to federally legalize marijuana with a vote of 220-204, mostly along party lines, sending the legislation to the Senate. Three Republicans - Reps. Matt Gaetz, Brian Mast and Tom McClintock - voted alongside the Democratic majority, while two Democrats voted no with the GOP. It marked the second time the Democrat-led House passed a bill to decriminalize pot, the first happening in December 2020. The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act decriminalizes possession, distribution and manufacture of cannabis - and no longer classifies it as

I's so glad that there is nothing else for them to focus on. The stuff at the border is only getting worse. The cartel's are waging war, real war, on OUR border, and, for some unknown reason this Title 42 MUST be lifted and we must BRACE for a major serge of criminal foreign nationals. Why? Why must we let them in?
Please, members of Congress, put these items like marijuana, and declaring "hate crimes" like lynching on the back burner and take care of you own LEGAL residents. WE are hurting, in every direction. No matter the party Biden is destroying this country. Everywhere. That bit yesterday about "transgender" children takes the cake.
Will the next big thing be free weightloss surgery for anorexic's? I guess so because it would be very hateful to suggest that therapy for a documented mental disorder might be helpful before doing something that can never be undone.

The need for self driving cars grows. If those cars could make all of life decisions for a growing number of people, we would really have something. The after effects of this will mandate all of us blowing into a tube or something to prove to the car that we aren't stoned or drunk.

The feds controlling Mary Jane and Magic Mushrooms, or any other drug for the matter is a right reserved for the states. Not the feds. And if the people of a state want them illegal or legal, so be it.

Some folks just can't stand liberty or accept personal responsibility. They'd rather see the police spend time cracking on some lids or young adults smoking ILLEGAL stuff than actually preventing crime or ensuring public order. Twenty-nine states outlawed marijuana between 1916 and 1931...supported by "“Police officers in Texas claimed that marijuana incited violent crimes, aroused a ‘lust for blood,’ and gave its users ‘superhuman strength." Prohibitionists seized on that and here we are...fighting that "War on Drugs", building fortunes for bad guys around the world. To stop people from making a bad, even fatal decision to use. More bubble wrap, please.
Nancy Reagan understood the problem when she told people "Just say no." I don't recall she ever threatened jail. And her program was a success.
I'm sorry for the sorrow and heartache families may suffer. And so it goes. Bad choices are made. There are sufficient Darwin Awards to present "winners", and maybe the knuckleheads will get the idea. At least buy your pharmaceuticals from a legitimate supplier. Have a slug of drain cleaner. Your choice.

Trump now has to decide if Gaetz is compatible with MAGA. NW Florida will not like this vote, it’s like he’s voting himself out to save face from resigning. Good move one day on Biden laptop and then left turn on this vote. Co fusing times?

There is money going into politicians pockets.
Why would anyone who put a warning on cigarettes want to legalize marijuana?

Marijuana was legal until the 1930's. As I understand it, the laws that made it illegal were largely due to cultural differences as it was mostly blacks and Hispanics who were using it at the time.
Fact is, alcohol has damaged more people, more families and resulted in more premature deaths than all illegal drugs combined.
Not sure where I stand on this TBH. I come from the era where one would go to a Jethro Tull concert and as soon as the lights went down the venue was a see of glowing red dots with the occasional little fireworks from popping seeds. I survived it just fine but others did not and did go on to more serious substances. I think the idea is twofold. Stop spending money on a war that will not be won AND decouple marijuana from the underground culture that moves people along to harder drugs.
I get both of those ideas.

Wow we have a bunch of closet Druggies on here and in Maryland. Out of the woodwork to support weed. This is not the time to give the Democrats ANY victory on ANY issue. Trump always says the Democrats always stick together, well today we identified three more secret liberals. If Trump still aligns with Gaetz after this then to hell with both of them.

Amen #21 I don't know for sure but it's what I hear about a state like Colorado who approved marijuana smoking and news is full of car accidents and lay-abouts. I think Missouri okayed it last year (I obviously don't smoke it). Article in today's local paper a couple of cops made a traffic stop, large amount of marijuana, cash and mushrooms. Perps arrested and news put on Facebook. Police department hammered with comments about them leaving people with drugs alone and go fight crime. This is a state right and I don't think the federal government should have anything to do with it.

Tom McClintock was a strong candidate for governor of CA after Grey Davis was thrown out of office in 2003. He was a pretty good conservative state senator at the time but has gone haywire since jumping into Congress years ago. His district is the northeastern corner of California where a lot of CA marijuana is grown. You can figure out on your own why he voted in favor of legalization.

During the Reefer Madness era (about 85 years ago) marijuana was blamed for many ills and atrocities, mainly because jazz musicians--mainly, blacks--partook of the devil weed. Having encountered it in college, I'm libertarian on pot. It didn't lead me to heroin or cocaine. (Some, it did, mainly because black market drug dealers usually sell multiple psychoactive substances.) There's no reason to lock up people who smoke pot at home. It's not toxic. Alcohol is far more dangerous. No, I'm not recommending that anyone smoke, just that those who partake do so responsibly. It should be legal, although it will be interesting to see how legality affects the medical marijuana dispensers in states like Florida, where medical pot is already legal.
