Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said Tuesday in a CNN interview that if former President Donald Trump won the 2024 election, the NATO alliance would be significantly damaged. Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, said NATO members would wonder whether they could continue to count on the United States.
“If he were to come back as the U.S. president, I think it would represent a pretty dramatic departure for the world, and they would rethink whether they can count on the United States to lead NATO to lead other nations as they push back against China and against Russia,” Romney said

You know what is so hypocritical about this stance? We have heard non-stop about "who, what, where, why, when" for the hiring process. Yet, the American people voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and Democrats, liberals, RINO's like Mitt Romney don't like who we hired. Go figure. . .

I am so glad he lost. He's an embarrassment to (apparently) everyone except himself. I hope the good people of Utah learned their lesson about state parties foisting completely unacceptable losers on their voters, and about voting for someone just because of the R after their name or their church affiliation. I hope we have, too.

If it weren't for Trump's pushing NATO for 4 years to pay up and be ready to do what they were created for, they would heave been totally unprepared for what is happening now. NATO should be thanking Trump for his leadership in a reinvigorated Alliance. The US was a leader. Now, under Biden, we are just another member of NATO demonstrating no leadership.

I'm starting to think Obama might have had a point...Pierre Dilecto lives in a former century. I'll bet NATO will be ecstatic to work with PDJT rather than the Ancient One we have now. As for Pierre, don't we hear his mommie calling him???

Since the US pays more than 2X what the rest of the NATO countries as a group pay for its funding, there is zero chance they will "rethink" the relationship because of a new POTUS.

Also, NATO's purpose is not to "push back" against China and Russia, unless those countries attack a NATO country. NATO's original purpose was to defend against the Soviet Union.

NATO and the US were just fine under Trump. NATO just needs to ante-up their share of the expenses, which they agreed to do when he was in office. It is the UN that needs to go. They have been useless and run lately by third world hacks.

The only thing that would change if Trump is elected President in 2024 is that the NATO countries would all be on notice that the USA expects that they will live up to their defense expenditures that they agreed to uphold, especially using at least 2% of their gross national product (GDP) on improving their individual defense establishments instead of relying on the USA to defend them. What would be wrong with that?
Obviously Romney is planning on running for President in 2024, a task in which he will fail, as the majority of Republican voters are Trump supporters who certainly will not vote for Romney. Chances are if the Republicans are not completely stupid, Romney will be knocked out of contention during the Republican primaries, even though the liberal media will be supporting him through the Republican primaries, and will then drop him like a rock before the general election as they switch to supporting whoever the Democrat nominee turns out to be. That is unless Romney decides to run for President as a Democrat!

Hey jerk Romney, just for your edification: there is no one leading Nato right now! Got it?? The only thing the US is doing pumping a lot of $$$$ into Nato to keep it alive. The rest of the Euros barely pay a dime, and it suits them fine. Furthermore, other than seeing US troops in Poland to help out do you see the Germans, the Brits, Italians or French in that neighborhood??? Thought not. But of course a lefty like you believes that the potted plant leads!! Right! Who knew you are taking pills now! You should join this moron for lunch, perhaps more of his stupidity will rub off on you!

It ought to be the other way around, whether Trump is #47 or not. NATO showed its dismal state in the face of "danger" with Ukraine. One "ally" even announced it was going home if fighting started involving NATO (Croatia). NATO's purpose has been overtaken by the collapse of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact. Our allies have allowed their defenses to wither under the US defense umbrella, most still not contributing sufficiently to their own defense. Why should they?
It's time to dissolve the partnership that targets Russia and otherwise looks for trouble to provide a basis for existence. The Euros are so fearful of Russia that it buys many key commodities from these foes. We're nuts to be there in the 21st Century.
And then there is Korea and Japan...and Australia and New Zealand...

And Paul Krugman, world famous NYT economic expert, said that "If Trump is elected, the stock market will crash to horrific lows." And, of course, the increase in the stock market during Trump's term was spectacular. I made a great deal of money in my investment accounts.

Romney is trying to project something that is not there, and he knows it, but trying to muddy the waters for President Trump should he decide to run in 2024.
