HELSINKI - Freedom of speech has been protected in Finland by a court that dismissed all charges against a member of Finnish parliament and a Lutheran bishop for expressing Christian beliefs about sexuality. According to a press release from ADF International, prosecutors failed in their case against Finnish MP Päivi Räsänen and Bishop Juhana Pohjola. The court ruled unanimously concluded that “it is not for the district court to interpret biblical concepts.” The prosecution was ordered to pay more than 60,000 EUR ($66,755 US) in legal costs and has a week to appeal the ruling.

Thanks be to God! FTA: “Räsänen, a former Minister of the Interior, had been charged with “hate speech” for sharing her faith-based views on marriage and sexual ethics in a 2019 tweet, a 2019 radio debate, and a 2004 pamphlet. Bishop Pohjola faced charges for publishing Räsänen’s pamphlet for his congregation over 17 years ago. (Snip) “Räsänen has also received letters of support from many denominations including the International Lutheran Council with Bishops and presidents of Synods from all over the world, the European Evangelical Alliance, Catholic and Pentecostal churches in Lithuania, representatives of the Evangelical, Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, Reformed and Unitarian churches in Romania, as well as the Evangelical Church of Macedonia, Christian NGOs in Latvia and other individuals. “Several US Senators signed a letter addressed to Rashad Hussain, the US Ambassador-At-Large for International Religious Freedom, expressing their concern over the “alarming” prosecution of Räsänen. “We are greatly concerned that the use of Finnish hate speech law is tantamount to a secular blasphemy law. It could open the door for prosecution of other devout Christians, Muslims, Jews and adherents of other faiths for publicly stating their religious beliefs,” the letter asserted.” The support extended from various Christian denominations throughout the world as well as individuals and government officials is most sincerely appreciated. Blessings to one and all. Isaiah 40:8 ~ “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

The possibility of an appeal means Christianity and free speech are still at risk in the Western country ranked No. 3 globally for its commitment to the rule of law. Prayers from around the world were answered joyfully today when a Finnish court ruled unanimously in favor of two Christians the government prosecuted for publicly stating the Bible’s teachings about sex. “If this kind of questioning of free speech is possible in a country like Finland, which has a reputation regarding free speech internationally, the same is possible anywhere,” said Member of Parliament Paivi Rasanen during a livestreamed press conference this morning U.S. time.

The archbishop said in his letter that Putin has been cornered by an aggressive NATO, backed by the United States, which is seeking to escalate the conflict for its own gains. “This is the trap for Russia just as much as Ukraine, using both to allow a globalist elite to bring its criminal plot to fruition,” Viganò wrote.
