California man who kidnapped bus full
of children in 1976 approved for parole

A 70-year old California man who has spent four decades in prison for kidnapping a bus full of children and burying them alive could be freed if Gov. Gavin Newsom approves his parole. A panel of two commissioners with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Friday recommended parole for Frederick Newhall Woods, one of three men who hijacked a school bus with 26 children aboard in Chowchilla, Calif. on July 15, 1976.(Snip)Ray and the children, who were then ages 5 to 14, were eventually able to claw their way out of the trailer 28 hours later and ran to nearby workers, who called police.

Comments:

Guess the parole board thinks he's suffered enough. In a better world his troubles would have ended 5 minutes after the guilty verdict.

He was going to let all those people die in that hole on the ground. Why in the world should this monster not die in prison? It would be far better than the death he was going to subject those kids to.

The death penalty should have been applied. But, at his age being released may be more punishment than freedom. For decades he has had 3 meals, a place to sleep, and free medical care. Now, at age 70 he has no job, no future and will have to make it by himself. Which I hope in sleeping in a box with other rats.

Parole should never be an option for some monsters. Sometimes I think parole boards rely on us forgetting about these monsters and what they did to earn their sentence. I haven't forgotten Chowchilla.
