Bruce Willis, 67, has been diagnosed with a brain condition that affects his ability to understand language and will be stepping away from acting, his family has announced. In a statement posted to social media, his family said: 'To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. 'As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.'

Bruce Willis....
National Aphasia Association
" Aphasia is an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write. Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain-most commonly from a stroke, particularly in older individuals. But brain injuries resulting in aphasia may also arise from head trauma, from brain tumors, or from infections."
I enjoyed a great amount of his movies.

Aphasia is a symptom.
It was the first symptom in a young friend of mine who died less than a year later from the glioblastoma that was the cause.
The Fifth Element is one of my favorites. I liked Sixth Sense too.

Sad. He was a great entertainer. Been a fan since his "Moonlighting" days. Always seemed to have a great sense of humor; May it see him through the dark days to come.

Do NOT go to Daily Mail for this kind of information. Aphasia is a speech problem. It should not necessarily affect his cognitive abilities unless something more is going on. We have a family member who has aphasia that is due to a hemorrhagic stroke (no clot). He understands language. Can converse socially (not uncommon and recommended). He just has difficulty finding the word(s) he needs. He has been in speech therapy most of the time since his stroke.

It is not degenerative or progressive unless he has a special kind of aphasia called “primary progressive aphasia”. I have known one person like this. The condition goes steadily downhill and cannot be helped with speech therapy. Willis may have this condition.
Primary progressive aphasia (uh-FAY-zhuh) is a rare nervous system (neurological) syndrome that affects your ability to communicate. People who have it can have trouble expressing their thoughts and understanding or finding words.
Symptoms begin gradually, often before age 65, and worsen over time. People with primary progressive aphasia can lose the ability to speak and write and, eventually, to understand written or spoken language.
This condition progresses slowly, so you may continue caring for yourself and participating in daily life activities for several years after the disorder's onset.

Bruce Willis has always been enjoyable to watch, whether on television or in films. Just about everything he did was worth watching. How many actors can you say that about? God bless him. Maybe I identify with Bruce because he's my exact contemporary, and my health isn't perfect, either.

God bless him and his family!
I was not a Die Hard fan but loved him in Moonlighting, RED and the Sixth Sense. One of the few good guys in Hollywood.
My father had aphasia during the last few years of his life. In the beginning he didn’t want anyone to help him find the words he was looking for but by the time he died at age 90, he was dependent on his wife to do that for him.

Dear Bruce:
try MCT oil, a natural oil that comes from coconut oil. You can get it on Amazon. Take one tablespoon three times a day. It is an alternative food for your nerve cells, which can become resistant to insulin as you grow older. It is used for infants also.
People with Alzheimer's and dementia might find this to be a life changer.

Best wishes for him to deal with this as best as it can be handled. Lots of fun movies in the can, for future use.
Getting old is not easy for many. I saw an old shooting buddy, a former chief of detectives in a nearby city, and then chief of police for decades in another town, the other day. He's struggling. He was a big, strong guy, now using a walker and barely can get around, multiple health problems.
But, he was still smiling and laughing and we had a nice discussion of the good old days when we were top shooters, fast and young and having fun.

Most unfortunate news....Willis always seemed like a really great guy! I didn't see a lot of his movies, although I was aware of them. I'm wondering if he maybe did a lot of stunts that might have caused some injuries.....also, I suspect Bruce was once quite a partier!
