America's Truck Driver Shortage

Original Article

Posted By: DVC, 3/30/2022 6:09:44 PM

There is a trucker shortage... and it's worse every year. This is not news; this national driver shortage is no shock to businessmen or policymakers. Our driver shortage contributes to empty store shelves, idled assembly lines, retail price inflation, a reduced Gross Domestic Product, and the global supply chain crisis. This is not just one industry’s problem; it’s everybody’s problem. What is odd, however, is that so many people believe the trucker shortage is caused entirely by not enough people choosing the profession of truck driving as a career. While that is certainly a part of it, it's not our real problem. Our truck driver shortage is caused by government policies

Comments:

Leftists and corrupt government, with their insane "climate" and "social" laws and regulations continue wreaking havoc on the country.

He makes a great point. The Port of New Orleans expanded and has added from 6 gantries to load and unload ships to 11. And the whole time there is one entrance to the port for trucks and one exit. Both in the same location with a traffic light in and out of the port. Then it is about a three quaters of a mile to the only access to an interstate right next to downtown New Orleans. During peaks there are long lines of semis waiting at one light to make a left turn to get on the interstate. Now on the plus size, this lack of infrastructure expansion has provided an ideal place for homeless bums to set up camps. And if a trunk hits a bum, well, that bum is no longer homeless or poor with the help of our savior billboard lawyers. And no plans to change a thing thanks to our Democrat goobernor!

The government has done one thing to help the situation by a great degree. Shutting down American industry. Could you imagine how much more time would be required to handle each ship if we were actually allowed to produce goods for sale to other countries and balance our trade deficits?

Shortages are traceable to government in nearly every case. Usually the black market, with it's associated crime, will step in to seize the opportunity. If you want less of something, tax it more. If you want rationing, set price controls. If you want more crime, regulate a necessity. If you want all this and more, vote for the Demzis.

Progressives have a pedophilia problem. Full stop, as the Barack Obamas of the world might say. From CNN producers to Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) station chiefs and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) field agents; from the woke Disney corporation to Democrat donors; from Hollywood to the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA); from Facebook/Meta to the Lincoln Project to America's public school system — the progressive Left has a demonstrated prurient interest in underage children. This is not guilt by association, innuendo, or conjecture; it is a firmly established fact pattern. And this is not to suggest that no Republicans have ever espoused

Medical marijuana has been legalized in 37 states, but a new study released Friday found that the drug had no benefit for those treating pain, depression, or anxiety. Moreover, a significant number of people in the study who used marijuana for medical purposes developed cannabis use disorder, also known as marijuana addiction, the study found. The study was conducted by the Massachusetts General Hospital. “People with pain, anxiety or depression symptoms failed to report any improvements, though those with insomnia experienced improved sleep,” said the study’s lead author, Jodi Gilman, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Depression and anxiety are some of the conditions most commonly treated with marijuana.

Even if you think Russia has some legitimate grievances, this war thing is not good. M’kay? It’s a horrible waste of life and property, and it will hardly just be the civilians of Ukraine and Russia paying a steep economic price. But it would never have happened if Russia couldn’t afford the world’s third-largest military — with only the 11th-largest GDP. Where is it getting the hard currency to oil that war machine (pun intended)? It’s essentially fossil fuel exports to our NATO allies, and especially the largest of them, Germany. And yes, even some exports to the United States.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read in AT the recent article by Dan Truitt on the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Almost word by word, it repeated the Russian propaganda that is being fed by the "Ministry of Truth" in Moscow. Mr. Truitt claims that "virtually no one in the U.S. has got this right, including conservative outlets and pundits." What arrogance! By these words, he claims a possession of the ultimate knowledge of the roots and causes of the current events. Really?

Now that Joe Biden has defined his wretched presidency with his focus on TikTok and its "influencers," even Saturday Night Live is lampooning his TikTok obsessions. They ran this one on Saturday: The context of the skit was that doddering and senile old Biden had reportedly met with TikTok "influencers" to brainstorm with them about what they could do to end Russia's Ukraine war. None of the characters consulted -- a grab bag of various clowns such as a dog-make-up specialist, a guy who said his own name over and over, AnnaLynne McCord, the blonde Hollywood ditz who recited Putin poetry claiming he needed a better mother

Here's the Washington Times story about it: An attack on the U.S. homeland would bring out the fight in most Americans. according to a new poll, but a surprisingly large percentage say they'd flee. A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday asked Americans what they would do "if they were in the same position as Ukrainians are now: stay and fight or leave the country?"

In Florida's 11th Congressional district, US Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) is facing a tough primary race against Conservative investigative journalist and free speech activist Laura Loomer. Rep. Webster's reelection to the House of Representatives will be a steep uphill challenge given that Laura Loomer (R-FL), the popular firebrand who was endorsed by President Trump in 2020, has now gained the endorsement of General. Michael Flynn. Loomer, who has been characterized as a Right-wing activist and the most canceled woman in Florida, looks to have a real shot to win after embarking on a grassroots campaign that seems to be blanketing the district.

Mayor Eric Adams was elected largely based on his promise to return order to New York City. While early indications point to his moving in the right direction, I fear that factors beyond his control will hinder reaching that goal. I recently retired as a sergeant after serving 29 years with the NYPD. I grew up in Queens and attended Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn. I still live in the city. I spent my entire career on patrol and in plainclothes Anti-Crime and Street Narcotics Enforcement Units (SNEU) in the South Bronx and Harlem. I came on the job in 1991 when the city had more than 2,000 homicides.

Those trying to sell us on buying electric vehicles often claim that drivers can save money by not having to buy gas, but is that really the case? In many regards, some analysts have their doubts. As the average cost per gallon of gas has soared past $4.20, and with no end in sight, many of our leaders — including Joe Biden — are pushing EVs as a cost-effective replacement for gas-powered cars. As Fox Business recently noted, a one-to-one comparison of the cost of charging an EV versus filling a regular auto with gas showed that EV charging appeared cheaper.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is promoting a dystopian vision, and it is closer than you think. By 2030, it says, “You will own nothing and you’ll be happy.” Ownership and control will be vested in a handful of government leaders and a cabal of the wealthiest individuals in the world. You will lose more than just your possessions. Under the WEF’s “Great Reset,” individual freedom, personal responsibility, and opportunities for growth and self-fulfillment will be eroded away. Democracy, the free market and national sovereignty will be replaced by a new world order, stakeholder capitalism and centralized control by some NGOs, globalist corporations and the elite.

Sometimes I feel sorry for Barack Obama. Though we grew up in the same era — indeed, were born less than two months apart — he had a very different upbringing. The title of his first autobiography says it all: Dreams from My Father. Unlike young Barack, I was blessed with a present father who took an active hand in raising me — a hand that, on rare occasions, wielded an old wooden paddle. I got a lot more than just dreams from my father. I received love, affection, counsel, discipline, and direction.

Back in 1967, the Reedy Creek Improvement District agreement was created to lure Disney to Florida. The agreement allows the district governmental powers to facilitate recreational projects and tourism. Florida's legislature felt that it would benefit the state if recreational organizations had the power to act as their own government in areas like property development, water control, public utilities, law enforcement, and fire protection. The mouse eagerly took the cheese, and today most of the land is owned by Walt Disney World. It's been a pretty sweet deal (snip) Now Florida legislators are threatening to pull those special privileges if Disney continues to strike at HB1557

Detroit—New vehicles sold in the U.S. will have to average at least 40 miles per gallon of gasoline in 2026, up from about 28 mpg, under new federal rules unveiled Friday that undo a rollback of standards enacted under President Donald Trump. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said its new fuel economy requirements are the strongest to date and the maximum the industry can achieve over the time period. They will reduce gasoline consumption by more than 220 billion gallons over the life of vehicles, compared with the Trump standards. They're expected to decrease carbon dioxide emissions—but not as much as some environmentalists want—and raise new vehicle prices

Back in 1967 when Disney World was just a gleam in Mickey’s eye and states around the country were vying for Walt Disney’s approval to build his second theme park, the Florida legislature passed the Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which gave the Walt Disney Company a special carve-out, making it a self-governing enclave.
