A 33-year-old French cryptocurrency expert who was shot at point-blank range by a robber trying to steal his $450,000 Richard Mille watch says he believes he was targeted and followed for hours or days before being ambushed outside his Manhattan hotel. Pierrick Jamaux told DailyMail.com he is shocked by how dangerous the city has become and would never have visited had he known how much it had changed since he lived there 10 years ago.The entrepreneur, who was visiting from Hong Kong with his Australian model wife, Sarah Watts, 26, was getting out of an Uber at the Fifty Hotel and Suites in Midtown

People actually pay that much for a watch? Why? I'd be scared to walk out the door wearing something like that, especially in New York, especially in times like these.

My thoughts exactly #1; even wearing a Timex in NYC is probably dicey right now.
And if the new Mayor is concerned about his city being called a 'laughingstock' then he best roll up his sleeves and do some serious work...especially if he wants those tourist dollars to keep coming.. The longer he waits the bigger the problem gets. Albany needs to buy a clue as well.

If you've been paying attention, NYC hasn't been safe in years. It isn't going to get any better with the ignorant voting for the same thing over and over again (see California). Do you want a safe city? Start by building more prison for longer jail sentences, punish harshly 2nd time offenders (everyone deserves a 2nd chance) by the 3rd or 4th throw away the key. Keep violent offenders off the streets by high bail. Punish crimes that spoil law-biding citizens quality of life. Let law-abiding citizen carry a gun.

Poor baby, someone wanted his $450K watch and he can't afford a security guard. I bet he is a Liberal and has voted to defund the Bobbies.

Dying over a watch, even a half a mill watch, is seriously stupid, if he had a choice.

How would a street thug know that value of the watch , who was wearing it and where that person was going to be? Yes, that's what the first sentence is about. This was a set up.

Thief got close enough to steal his watch, shot him 5 times and he isn't dead?
New York thieves need some range time--------bad.
No wonder they kill so many innocent people by accident

I'm happy for those liberals. They're finally getting what they want. They want to get rid of the police. They want to empty the prisons. After all, locking up criminals is unfair. I'm happy to see they got what they wanted. Congrats liberals. Have a nice day. (if you don't get shot).

Who wears a $450000 watch in New York? As Forrest Gump's Mom said "Stupid is as stupid does".

My liberal brother and his wife like to travel internationally. They leave the wedding rings at home. My SIL will only wear post earrings. Maybe a cheap watch. They don't wear fancy clothes. They don't want to show any signs of wealth.

Please, let's not wealth shame. The idiot L.A. Mayor just did that. He told his citizens "don't wear outside any pricey jewelry or anything that will attract a thief"....so now it's the fault of the victim that they have nice things or wear expensive whatever in public? How awful! Is this how far we have fallen???? God help us!!!

Thirty-two years ago, my father lived right in the middle of Manhattan and I took my newly adopted 2 month old daughter to visit him and his wife. We decided to take her in the stroller for a walk in Central Park and I was told not to wear any jewelry even though it was the middle of the day.
Things have only gotten worse, much more so in the last 2 years, and this guy was just plain stupid.
