Former President Donald J. Trump seems quite happy with the results of Tuesday’s GOP primary in Texas.“Big night in Texas! All 33 candidates that were Trump endorsed have either won their primary election or are substantially leading in the case of a runoff. Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have won in a landslide. Thank you, and congratulations to all!” Trump declared triumphantly in a statement shared online by the Save America political action committee. In a follow-up to his victory lap, Trump said, “All 33 Trump-Endorsed candidates won last night in Texas, or are substantially leading. Big night!

Big night! Or not. . . The left says they will turn Texas blue this election. Not necessary. They just need to turn Texas RINO.

Abbott is a RINO. Last thing we need is more of him.

All-in-all, not too much to complain about last night. I just wish Guzman would have taken out Bush to go against Paxton in their runoff. With Trump's support, Paxton should take it in May. I just don't want any more Bush's. I just can't help it.
The most promising thing was the turnout for the two primaries. Beto-the-faux-Mexican didn't even get 1,000,000 votes, and the total of the Demon-Rat voters in that primary was only about 1.1 million. Not only did Abbott get over 1.2 million votes by himself, the 2nd and third places in the Republican governor's primary got over 1,000,000 votes combined. That speaks volumes about how motivated the two parties are for November!!! I have the feeling that Texas is going to be a lot redder than it already is come November!!!

They had no real opposition. Picked some guys off the street and put them on the ballot to make it look like there was a choice. The big money had already made the choices.

It appears that the GOP pulled its usual stunt where several equally valid Tea Party types, any of them being far preferable to the incumbent, would split the vote and hand the win to the incumbent based on name recognition alone. I'd have voted for Allen West.

Mixed feelings. It hasn't seemed like Abbott has been anything remotely as capable and brave as DeSantis. But, I don't live in Texas, maybe the Texans have a better view of this. I'd be happy to be corrected.

#6, let me give you my take as a life-long native Texan.
Abbott really messed up during the beginning of the Covid mess (as did everyone including President Trump). But he realized it, and has been working overtime this last 1.5 years to earn back his conservative credentials. I was ready to write him off in mid-2020, but he has definitely earned back my vote given the realistic limited potential of his primary opponents to succeed. He may not be the best, but he is the best option we have to continue with Republican governance in Texas.
I am a conservative. I stopped claiming to be a Republican when the sewer-rat Republi-Can'ts stabbed President Bush in the back in November of 2020. I will never again vote for the lesser of two evils because he or she has an "R" after their name. But Abbott is not evil. The governor of Texas is by the Texas constitution a fairly weak office. It just doesn't have much power -- nowhere close to what DeSantis can do under the Florida constitution. The speaker of the house is a much more powerful position in Texas. So Abbott's hands are tied in many ways. People scream that he isn't doing "enough", but from what I have seen, he has been doing pretty much everything he legally can under the limitations of his office. I truly believe he has done a lot of good with what he has to work with. That is why I voted for him and will clearly support him against a communist like Beto-the-faux-Mexican in November!!!

Tx Secretary of State site shows 1.9 mil votes cast for GOP candidates for governor vs. 1.03 mil for Dems. Beto is not likely to be the next gov.

Allen proved he had no game but to be LTC Allen West (Ret), hero and tough guy disrupter. Huffines spent plenty, and had a grand plan to eliminate property taxes by raising "consumption taxes". (Tack 20% onto the price of a car, let's say $4k onto a $20k vehicle...and either your down payment is blown, or you're financing your tax liability.) If signage is an indicator, Huffines should have won in a landslide. IMHO, talking to many voters in the past weeks, Abbott won by having inferior opposition. A significant number would prefer someone else...not named West or Huffines.
BTW: The Dems had no hot race to draw them to the polls. Turnout numbers are irrelevant. At least two Dem voters told me they were voting GOP for that reason.

Thanks, #7. Those living in a state always have the clearer view. Glad to hear that Abbott kinda got sorted back out.

Isn't calling Abbott a RINO also calling Trump an idiot? I've never noticed Abbott not supporting Trump, including following his lead with COVID measures, that didn't last as long as those measures in a lot of other red states. As #7 states, Texas is a weak governor state by design. Besides, there is no such thing as a perfect politician but there are definitely some better than others, whether at the state or national level. I have no doubt that Trump would have completed the wall, were it not from partisan opposition from Legislative and Judicial branches of our national government. Abbott has been similarly hamstrung.

I will be happy if Ken Paxton defeats George P. Bush. It is long past time for the Bush dynasty to be retired from politics.
