Russia has launched a third wave of terrifying nighttime missile strikes on Ukraine. Shells rained down across the Eastern European country following the third day of all out war with Russia. The sky above the city glowed an ominous orange as loud bangs rang out from the blasts, thought to have been from Russian ballistic missiles. It is unclear where the explosions took place, although it is thought to be to the South West of the city. And The Kyiv Independent reports an oil depot had been blown up at Vasylkiv, around 40km West of Kyiv. Vasylkiv mayor Natalia Balasynovych

What’s next, carpet bombing? This makes me sick. And Lunchbucket goes to Delaware. Pelosi calls him brilliant. I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe.

Russia is evil. Putin is Hitler-level evil. Like #1 said, the Russians will do whatever is necessary to win -- including carpet bombing!!! They have an unlimited supply of men, and massively superior weaponry -- and will use everything this side of nukes to win quickly. The longer this goes on, the more ruthless the Russians will get. Seeing dead women and children on the side of the road may disgust civilized people, but Putin will see it as his troops doing their duty. To make things worse, when the Ukrainians started arming civilians, and telling them to do guerilla warfare (like Molotov Cocktails), they made all civilians into enemy combatants. That is all the excuse the Russians will need to justify unleashing hell on all of Ukraine. Ukraine was under the control of Russia for most of the last century. They will be again in the next few weeks. Ukraine has very little material support from other countries, and no other countries offering troops to join in their fight. There is just no logical way they can hope to win this. There will be dead and maimed Russians, but 10 or 20 or 100 times as many dead and maimed Ukrainians. Ukraine needs to put their weapons down, surrender before another life is lost, and live to fight another day. Then let the rest of the free world punish Russia economically. It's a slow process, but a lot less bloody...

The thing that most aren't aware of is that Russia does not have huge stocks of these advanced cruise missiles. They are in danger of having "shot their bolt", by running out of long range weapons, and too far from Kiev to hit it with conventional artillery. Then, there is only manned aircraft, and Putin has no stealth aircraft to strike ahead of conventional aircraft and clear the air defenses. And the Ukrainian air defense system seems to be working very well indeed. It apparently shoot down two transport aircraft full of several hundred of Putin's finest troops, which are relatively few in a conscript army. This apparently stopped a key airport capture which was a critical part of the backup plan to take Kiev. Losing two companies of those few top troops is serious. Fernandez reports that the airport north of Kiev that was taken by paratroopers has been recaptured and the paratroopers killed or captured. Their relief column (paratroopers always must have a relief, soon) from the north is apparently stalled with over 100 armored vehicles destroyed by some reports. If the German, Dutch and Estonian weapons arrive soon, they may turn the tide decisively in Ukraine's favor. Putin has a limited, slow logistical support train, cannot sustain the pace for long. I am cautiously optimistic that Ukraine may be able to hold out, or perhaps even drive the Russians back to the borders.

I guess Putin's dictate that civilians be spared has now gone by the wayside now that the war is not going his way.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has caused confusion with her reaction to a moment during President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech on Tuesday. Biden said one of the dangers was soldiers breathing in toxic smoke from burn pits while at their bases. At this moment, Pelosi began to rise to her feet while rubbing her knuckles together and smiling. Applause can also be heard from the crowd. This moment has been viewed over 1.5

Rising inflation, a continuing pandemic, a foreign policy misstep in Afghanistan and Democratic infighting all marred President Biden's first year, and now a majority of respondents to a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll say his first year was a "failure." In all, 56% said Biden's first year in office was a failure, versus just 39% who said it was a success. What's more, 54% said he's not fulfilling his campaign promises, and 52% said he has done more to divide the country than unite it, despite uniting the country being a pillar of Biden's 2020 presidential run. BRUSSELS — A new front line of conflict is taking shape in Europe, with enhanced levels of risk that raise questions about whether NATO will, or even can, respond effectively. Having invaded Ukraine and deployed its troops in a compliant Belarus, Russia has suddenly extended its military power to the borders of several NATO countries, including the Baltic nations. If Russia succeeds in taking over Ukraine and keeping bases in Belarus, as many experts now expect, its forces will extend from the borders of the Baltics and Poland to Slovakia, Hungary and northern Romania, making it significantly harder for NATO to

WASHINGTON -- The Biden administration is delaying decisions on new oil and gas drilling on federal land and other energy-related actions after a federal court blocked the way officials were calculating the real-world costs of climate change. The administration said in a legal filing that a Feb. 11 ruling by a Louisiana federal judge will affect dozens of rules by at least four federal agencies. Among the immediate effects is an indefinite delay in planned oil and gas lease sales on public lands in a half-dozen states in the West, including Wyoming, Montana and Utah. President Biden will promote a new “988” crisis hotline and outline funding to combat the harmful effects of social media when he devotes a portion of his State of the Union Address to the “unprecedented mental health crisis” in the country, the White House said. The three-digit hotline is available in some parts of the country, but a July launch will make it available nationwide as part of an interconnected network of local crisis centers that can respond to calls and texts. Mr. Biden plans to propose nearly $700 million in funding in his fiscal 2023 budget to “staff up and shore up” local crisis centers.
