The United Nations Security Council held its second meeting this week on Russian aggression against Ukraine late Tuesday – a meeting presided over by the Russian ambassador ending with Ukraine’s envoy warning he would “go straight to Hell.”
Russian strongman Vladimir Putin announced an invasion of Ukraine in the early morning hours of Thursday that, reports indicate, has gone far beyond the Donbas region Putin claims he is protecting and included reported explosions in Kyiv, the national capital hundreds of miles from the Russian border.
Russia should not be a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Independent Ukraine was a founding member of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1922. Ukraine has an equal right to assume the Permanent Member of the Security Council that was given to the late USSR . Russia? Ukraine? Who decided to award the permanent seat to Russia after the break up of the Soviet Union?

Indeed... he can go to hell.
He should feel quite at home, there, since he already speaks the language.

I find some consolation hearing Ukraine's representative use the words: hell and purgatory. There's hope yet.

It seems that this is going to be a door to door fight for the Russians. Kind of like Afganistan was for us. If the world has learned anything about that type of fighting, it will be extremely bloody for both sides. IEDs and boobytraps can take a heavy toll on invading forces. It is much easier to blow up s plsne on the ground than to shoot one down from the skies. There is a good chance that the Russians get bogged down in the cities. When dead and wounded soldiers return home, the Russian will turn on Putin.

#1, the answer to your question is that Ukraine agreed to Russia inheriting the USSR's seat on the Security Council in exchange for promises that Russia would honor their territorial integrity (part of that agreement was the Ukraine also giving up the nuclear weapons they inherited from the USSR).

Re #3, I have gone to Catholic church service in Kiev a couple of times, and in Dnipropetrovsk, I found an internet cafe while looking for ways to stay in touch (and read Lucianne). After going there a number of times over months, I found that they were a Christian internet cafe. And I asked about it, and the answer was affirmative, and they offered Bibles in multiple languages for visitors to read, and classes in English, too.
I remember having a chuckle when I asked for some chocolate ice cream and some tea ( I wanted to pay something for using their internet) in my pretty limited Russian, and the manager/server asked me back in perfect English, "So, you want some chocolate ice cream and tea, right?" At least I got the idea across correctly, and at that point, I asked if this was a Christian organization, and we had a short discussion about their mission, which was primarily religious, using the internet (computers for use in the back for a small fee) to attract young people.
I found some real encouragement that a good number of the Ukrainians that I knew were either Christians or seeking to understand Christianity, looking for some religion in their lives, after having been an atheist nation for so long under the soviets. An American-Armenian friend that I traveled with helped several people that I know to find out about Christianity, and got them Bibles and had long meetings after work to discuss Christianity. There is a hunger there for this knowledge.

We can be sure that for at least one of them, Putin, that's exactly where he's headed.
