It's early Thursday in Ukraine. Definitive news will be arriving soon. But it sure sounds as if Putin has invaded the remainder of the country without admitting it is a real invasion. Says he wants to demilitarize because the Ukrainians pose the threat. The reported naval landing at Odessa sounds curious. It isn't easy to move a substantial force by sea w/o being detected. Anyway, we will soon know.

Demilitarization by military invasion... Sounds very Democrat-ish. Trudeau-ish even. It's as if COVID has had a residual effect of turning every evil fascist into a Costanza-like redefiner of previously well understood terms. I guess we're are now living in the era of "it's not a lie if you believe it."

Nothing to worry about. "Demilitarize" means that Putin is just anti-gun -- for everyone else -- but that's a good thing, right, Joe?

President Joe Biden’s administration is looking to divert United States Border Patrol agents from their mission at the U.S.-Mexico border to send them overseas “to assist” those fleeing from Ukraine amidst Russia’s invasion, a new report states.Even as illegal immigration continues pouring through the nation’s southern border at record levels, Biden hopes to entice Border Patrol agents to sign up voluntarily to aid American citizens, green card-holders, and their immediate relatives fleeing Ukraine into Eastern Europe.John Solomon at Just The News, who exclusively obtained the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) memo, detailed the effort dubbed “Operation Support Ukraine:”

President Joe Biden has been criticized after he stated outright that 'no one' expected sanctions that were imposed on Russia 'to prevent the invasion' of Ukraine. He made the candid remarks during Thursday afternoon's press conference over the situation in Eastern Europe. Reporters were quick to take the president to task over what appeared to be a changing stance on whether sanctions, economic or otherwise, were effective in any way. 'No one expected the sanctions to prevent anything from happening,' Biden said in what was a complete reversal to what he had said previously.

I have contended frequently that our jury system is woefully defective because unscrupulous prosecutors and personal injury lawyers can easily find uninformed and easily manipulated rubber stamps as opposed to the educated and responsible citizens envisioned by the Founding Fathers. Examples include, in my opinion, the prosecution of Kyle Rittenhouse despite the prosecution's own stipulation that the three men he shot were not only the initial aggressors but pursued Rittenhouse when he tried to retreat from the conflicts they started. Another was Scott Harshbarger (D-Mass.)'s prosecution and conviction of the Amiraults "to protect the children."

The word “inspiring” does not come to mind as a way of describing President Biden’s afternoon speech following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “Dispiriting” comes closer. The best Biden could do rhetorically was to declare that “America stands up to bullies” — as though the most dangerous moment in the past 20 years on the planet Earth were some kind of remake of the old movie “My Bodyguard.”Come on, man. Putin isn’t a bully. He’s either a lunatic pursuing a nation-murdering delusion or a man possessed of a world-historical ambition to make himself an equal in Russian history to the Greats, Peter and Catherine,

To the New York Times’s manifest despair, it seems that there is no evidence of an actual crime. In 2018, Cyrus Vance, Jr., Manhattan’s then-District Attorney, charged the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, with tax fraud allegedly related to overvaluing properties to obtain bank loans.
