A Queens man with 167 arrests on his record was busted yet again this week for shoplifting from a Rite Aid on the Upper East Side, The Post has learned. Jamel Pringle, 39, was nabbed around 8:15 a.m. Monday for stealing 48 items worth close to $430 from the drug store on Second Avenue near East 96th Street, police and Manhattan prosecutors said Tuesday. As with most of his prior arrests, he was charged with petit larceny—a misdemeanor that is not bail-eligible under the state’s new criminal justice reform law.(Snip)Pringle’s criminal history is “extensive” and includes one felony conviction, 88 misdemeanor convictions and 39 failures

Setting aside the disruption he causes to people and businesses, someone should tally the direct costs to the taxpayer of just this one Jamel; police overtime, court costs, free court-appointed attorneys, taking up space in jail from time to time, etc. It would be enlightening. We need a place of permanent exile for such people.

good, now roll all 160+ arrests into a single docket of charges, as well as the whole bundle of "Failure to Appears", Whatever time given on each charge to run consecutively, not concurrently. Minimum 30days on each.

Let's see. If we all put our counts together, how many arrests can we come up with? Let's skip things like traffic tickets and civil violations. Just count arrests, you know, when they haul you up to the police station. I'll start. If I count the time the local cop busted me for riding my bike on the sidewalk, taking me to the station, and making my mom come and get my bike back, I can contribute one to the total. That's it. I must have been about 10 or 12 at the time.
