New Yorkers and lawmakers howl over utility
hikes; Con Ed says they’re not to blame

Original Article

City and state lawmakers are amped up over a sudden rate spike that many New Yorkers are now seeing on their Con Ed energy bills—charges that could make it impossible for some to afford rent and their utilities. Brandy Bora, a corporate executive who rents a loft in Greenpoint, said her family’s Con Ed bill shot up from $300 in December to $850 last month—an increase, which, if sustained, will mean they’ll eventually be forced to move. “I don’t even know what to do,” Bora, who lives with her husband and their 6-year-old daughter, told the Daily News on Tuesday. “I literally can’t pay that.”

Comments:

People demanded Green energy and voted people who promised to give it to them good and hard. And in typical New York fashion, now they're complaining about it. What can you do? Go on welfare, get your utilities for free, and crank that thermostat however you like. You'll own nothing and you'll be happy.

Green new energy is very expensive, and intermittent. Ask China. Ask Texas. Scuttling all the oil and gas, and coal projects has reduced supply, increasing prices to the utilities for oil and gas and coal needed to produce green energy.

It all comes from the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan that was enacted late last year and that the administration continues to sell, amid the collapse of Biden's Build Back Better plan. The IRS cost the government more than $400 million over the last three years because it didn’t bother to fix broken mail machines, the agency’s inspector general said in a new report Thursday. The machines are supposed to automatically identify which envelopes contain payments to Uncle Sam, so they can be quickly processed and deposited. But the 20-year-old machines are in such disrepair that they kept missing envelopes with remitted payments. Employees shut them off and resorted to looking for payments by hand—a much slower process. The delays meant checks were deposited more slowly, costing the government hundreds of millions of dollars in lost interest payments, the inspector
