An elderly man was cuffed and arrested in Ottawa for honking his horn in support of demonstrators on Sunday, a day before a judge outlawed honking, as protests against COVID-19 vaccine mandates rage on in the Canadian capital. A bystander filmed while two officers pulled over Gerry Charlebois, 78, for beeping his horn. 'What did he do wrong?' the bystander asked. 'None of your f****** concern, man,' one officer responded. Officers went back and forth with onlookers and Charlebois. Eventually, an officer in a blue surgical mask grabbed Charlebois and tried to restrain him, bringing the vaccinated great-grandfather down to his knees in the middle of the street

Comments:

That'll teach him. Lick the boot, old man. Honk, honk.

Okay, law enforcement you got some ‘splainin’ to do. Who in their right mind would harass an old man like this? Sure, he was a little feisty, but this could have been handled much better by these police officers. What in the heck has gotten into the hearts of these cops who believe that following the facsist orders from Trudeau is the correct and moral thing to do to your fellow citizens? What we are witnessing is a terrible indictment of the mindset of the revival of Third Reich thinking of many in law enforcement today. “Just following orders” did not work in the 40’s and it is not going to work now. Unless these officers are totally on board with Trudeau’s facisim, what it the world is compelling them to behave this way? Dealing with this in the manner that it was done was very bad optics for the police. These guys needed to put their pride down, use some sense, and learn to diffuse a situation especially when you are dealing with a very emotional issue with an old guy. They let the old guy get to them and it escalated from there. These police officers blue it, but there seems to be a lot of that going around lately.

Horrible. We're supposed to protect and SERVE the public. With each passing day, more of us seem to forget the basics we learned the first week of the academy; Peel's Principles of Policing, and constitutional law regarding the rights of citizens. I don't know about Canada's laws, but too many instances like this one are happening here in the U. S. also. https://www.lawofficer.com/peels-principles-of-policing/ It seems that it's time for some remedial training for many of us. I'm near the end of my career & I worry about what they're teaching recruits now. Please thank and encourage the officers who are doing it right, and make sure that prospective Chiefs and Sheriffs are properly vetted about the evil of asking their officers to follow illegal or improper orders.

further to. my previous comment: If one is a Police Officer, It must break your heart to see these Canadian Thugs in action...beating an old 4'10" man... even the once-revered RCMP arresting a pastor for (gasp) holding a religious service for a few people, not once but four times. The RCMP have officially joined the Secret Police society with the KGB, Stasi, SAVAC, Gestapo and FBI!

The backlash on this is going to be huge. The whole planet is watching what is playing out in Canada and this kind of thing will stiffen the spines of those protesting the mandates everywhere and can light a fire in a split second. Trudy and his thugs will rue the day they started this. Do they really think that this kind of behavior against their fellow citizens is going to make the truckers pack up and go home? Fat chance. Prayers for this man and all of the truckers and protestors.

Being a cop is a job. People do jobs to make a living and support themselves and their families. Every job has a boss. If you don’t do what the boss tells you, you lose your job. You lose your means of making a living. If an individual cop refuses to do what his boss tells him to do, he won’t be a cop anymore. The boss will replace him with a more obedient individual. It is the way of tyranny.

So, a judge banned honking car horns, and self-important police punk bullies use that judge's order to abuse and arrest a 78-yo man? Since when did judges get the power to make laws, bypassing the elected legislature? Since when did police begin recognizing a judicial ruling as having the weight of settled law? Since when did honking your car horn become an offense that justifies a police officer to stop and detain you, search your car, question you, and handcuff and arrest you?

Sorry for the second post. #20. We all understand the way it works. My point is that the police could have handled differently. That is in their discretion. Maybe by being less confrontational and less intimidating. The old guy was just every emotional and when the police spoke to him in a confrontational manner, he got upset. Had they tried to explain the situation about the noise, they might have been more successful. All they did was exacerbate the situation and now they look like thugs bullying an old man. It was not smart policing.

The filmed insert to this piece is one that should be emailed and texted to everyone you know! The only sad part of this story is that these two particular cops are NOT representative of police in general (and in fact did not even have the authority to arrest this 78 year old as the anti honking mandate came the NEXT day) and give a bad name to those who put their lives on the line. These two cops were thugs and bullies and should be suspended and fired!!!!! I hope this Daily Mail piece goes everywhere and shows exactly what Trudeau and others are actually doing re: PEACEFUL protesters.

This has gone too far. Because Trudeau has gone full Communist, he has left the police to do his dirty work. So the police out of a sense of helplessness, are harassing a little old man who honked his car horn. Sick! There is no excuse for the over reacting of these policemen. They are giving a bad name to all police who are good and honorable...however, there are some, give them a little power and they go whole hog! Not all police, but a few. I know from my background.

But it’s beyond distressing to see how easily police (and the FBI) trample both decency and elementary civil rights, and engage in invidious selective enforcement, in the service of the political ends of the Democratic Party.

David Anber, Criminal Lawyer 🇨🇦 @DavidAnber I can advise, with consent, that I now represent the elderly man you’ve seen in videos like the one below, in respect of the Provincial Offence notice he received. My office will be vigorously fighting the charge starting with what appears to be an unlawful arrest. David Anber, Criminal Lawyer Flag of Canada @DavidAnber Based on the info I have, it seems clear that the officer either had the man’s name or chose not to ask the man’s name prior to arresting him. Failing to provide a driver’s licence is NOT an arrestable offence if the person provides their verbal identification.

Many Minnesota ambulance services are struggling to respond to emergency calls as workers leave the field in pursuit of better pay and working conditions. The exodus comes as demand for emergency medical services is increasing statewide, not only from heart attacks, strokes and car accidents but also patient transfers from hospital to hospital because of crowded conditions caused by COVID-19. "I've never seen so many workers leave the EMS field," said Buck McAlpin a lobbyist for the Minnesota Ambulance Association. "It is alarming." Nearly 60% of the state's 10,465 certified emergency medical technicians did not provide patient care in 2021, suggesting they left the workforce altogether, according to state data.
