Washington State took a big step this week towards passing a “wealth tax” on the state’s richest residents.
The state — home to uberwealthy Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, among others — is holding senate hearings on SB 5426, which would portion a 1% tax on “paper wealth” like stocks, bonds, futures, and publicly traded options.
I’m reading the text of the bill right now, and about the first 15-20% of it isn’t even actual law. It’s nothing but happy talk, like “Washington has long led the way with innovative and bold ideas that have changed the world.”
And: “Washington’s wealthiest residents can and should share more equitably in

Any Commiefornian who retired on a pension to Washington is in for a surprise because pensions are 'paper' wealth as is a 401K.
Stupid is as stupid does.

I'm reluctant to give an intelligent suggestion to the delusional leftist lunatics in Washington - - but here it is - - - - -
Why not word the law so that current WA billionaires can't escape the tax? Just say the current WA residents have to pay the tax - - for the rest of their lives - - no matter where they move to. That way they can't escape the tax - - even if they move to Florida or Somalia.
But - - you'd better pass the law quickly - - before the U-Haul vans start pulling up to the Gates gates. Nab 'em now - - so they can't get away!

Why stop at 1%. Good grief go all the way to 99% you greedy socialists. Think of how much of Seattle you could destroy with that kind of money and still have enough leftover for your own personal mansions.

I don’t feel at all sorry for these Commie billionaires. I remember when Bill Gates’ father said we don’t pay enough taxes. Well here’s their chance. Gates and Bezos support left wing causes so they should be more than happy to pay this new tax. You know what they say—after screwing the lower classes, they turn on their own. Let’s see how woke they are now! Ha! Ha! Ha!

The super rich have homes in other states so the move would be easy for them & transferring the business itself would follow.
In fact the smart play is to have the action plan ready to go.
Which means to a no state tax Red State.

It's only 1 percent. It's only on the wealthy.
Just like the income tax when it was proposed. Look how that turned out.

When most of today's top 1% move out, the next one hundreth of the people become the next "top 1%."
Then down and down it goes until only the poorest are left.
How soon will the "state" realize that?
The "state" can't make a law against moving away.

I fled washington state after 30 years, and I would never be described as wealthy. The marxist ooze that is oregon seems to follow the coastline north. I watched it destroy seattle years ago.

It's not just Washington. The entire Left Coast is now captured communist territory. They all have used the vote by mail scam to make certain that they will always win no matter how outrageous their policies become and how much tax money they rip off from the productive ccitizens.
We recently escaped the craziness. We saw they were already talking about ways to tax those who leave and we got out before they were able to do it. Future escapees may not only have to shoot their way out but also keep shooting when these Left Coast states keep coming after them no matter where they go.

Of course these bozos will flee the state not because they have ruined it by their support of rabid democrat policies which have made it unlivable or their support of anarchists and thugs in Antifa and BLM who have burned, rioted and looted the cities. They will flee because it will cost them money to stay. They supported the destroyers who devastated the lives of so many people with little concern about their little mundane lives, but let the government put a higher tax on them and they are gone in a heartbeat. These bastions of benevolence are moved by nothing but their bottom line. Through their support of democrat policies for organizations that do actual harm to everyday citizens they ruin lives and communities, but it is all done with money that they use as some kind of tax exemption or write off. I can’t say it enough, democrats destroy everything they touch and wealthy ones do it to benefit themselves through tax loopholes. I’d like to see how benevolent they really are if they received no tax breaks because of their donations.

What an utterly stupid thing to do. These dope-smoking legislators in Washington can't figure out (as other posters on this page have) that none of these billionaires will actually pay this tax?

And remember, Washington has had mail-in voting for years, and it has worked perfectly - no Republican has won state-wide office since! So Jay Inslee is going to remain Governor as long as he wants. The fact that he is a dolt is a mere inconvenience - he's a bought and paid-for dolt with Presidential ambitions, and his ideas appeal to socialist Democrats.
