U.S. companies unexpectedly cut jobs in January for the first time in a year, as a surge in the highly contagious omicron coronavirus variant battered the labor market's recovery from the pandemic, according to the ADP National Employment Report released Wednesday morning. Companies shed 301,000 jobs last month, sharply missing the 207,000-job gain that economists surveyed by Refinitiv had predicted and a major drop from the downwardly revised gain of 776,000 in December. It marked the first time that ADP reported negative growth since December 2020, when companies shed 123,000 jobs before the vaccines were available. "The labor market recovery
It is indeed getting old. I've had my bout with omicron, as have most of the people I know it would seem. It is NBD, miss a week of work at the most. I felt worse with my last bout of the flu several years ago. Continuing to blame the lame economy on the bug is just the swamp being stuck on stupid.

Guaranteed Biden will brag about how many good paying union jobs he has created. Greatest job growth in the history of mankind, don't you know. Oh, and unemployment will once again magically decrease. Welcome to Fantasy Island al la Biden.

even Fox is using the 'unexpectedly' bs - xiden's economy sucks, his policies are making things worse. PERIOD!

I do not think that word means what you think it means. For something to happen "unexpectedly" it requires that people did not expect it to happen. I am pretty sure that everyone on this site expected this to happen since the day President Biden was inaugurated.

But but but but…. Peppermint Patty said it was the BEST economy ever. The BESTEST! I’m confused. I was told not to believe my eyes, ears, my bank account, 10 dollar a pound bacon, 5 dollar a gallon gas, and to believe what our betters told us. You think they could be lying? The morons on Twitter say no… boy do they have a surprise coming.

The word "unexpectedly" in a headline is poor writing. It is strictly an opinion. It should be banned from that usage. Put it in the body of the article with the reference to who expected what. The obamacron surge blame is also an opinion. They get an F from me for headline writing.
"The battered US economy slashes jobs in January while obamacron surges" would be less ridiculous.

What to do - - what to do - - with that half-million dollar degree in Women's Studies?
Even cashier jobs are being wiped out by automated check-outs. Maybe there's an opening at the DMV?

Betting more people lost their jobs for not being vaccinated rather than Omicron.

Notice the headline says, "as" Omicron surges, not "because" Omicron surges. Fox implying causation that isn't there.

Omicron FEAR surge. If you have your Vitamin D levels up, and have the proper drugs available and an honest doc (all not easily found) you can be fine. And use a povodine-iodine nasal spray after all large group public interactions, it kills any viruses that might be in your nose in seconds, for pennies.
Dr. McCullough has an explanation of how to mix it up. 50-50 hydrogen peroxide and water mix works, too, may be easier to find than the povodine-iodine. I have not used the peroxide, but Dr. McCullough recommended it, too.

I call bovine feces. I don't see that Omicron is the cause of this.
But, hey, it's a great call, right? Got California forest fires? Omicron did it. How bout inflation? Omicron. Hard to fill jobs? Couldn't be the dole; it MUST be Omicron.
Brady retiring? Omicron.
I'll bet Whoopi Goldberg temporarily had Omicron.

Article states that by far the biggest losses were in the entertainment and hospitality industries. All those people who were fired for not getting the jab aren't going out to eat or to the movies. And most of us don't want to show our papers and wear a face diaper to get into a restaurant.

Let's not forget the supply chain issues. That is real and problematic. If you don't have products to sell, you don't have revenue and you may have to reduce your workforce.

here is That Word again..."Unexpectedly", it get used a LOT in media reports announcing under performance by the Biden administration and experts projections. EVERYTHING keeps having to be revised downward...compared to the Trump years when EVERY month, hiring, business starts, profits, wages, minority employment, and production numbers had to be revised UP...exceeding expectations.
