The Senate's majority Democrats will have to function for more than a month without Sen. Ben Ray Luján as the New Mexico senator recovers from a stroke he suffered last week, according to a timeline put out by his office. He plans to return to the Senate in four to six weeks, a senior aide in the 49-year-old senator's office said Wednesday – which would be two weeks after President Joe Biden self-imposed deadline for announcing a nominee to fill the seat of retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

The timing of this seems suspicious to me. Plus he's only 49. I wish him well but will wait and see what Pelosi does next.

I wish Senator Lujan a full and lasting recovery, but I can't help enjoying his colleagues' predicament.

With or without the senator, the next six weeks guarantees chaos, stupidity, deception, confusion and infighting within the democrat camp with the possibility of war hanging over their heads.

Having a serious stroke at 49 is a major "wake up call" to anyone.
All partisan politics aside, he really should retire and spend his time and energy on getting healthier and being with his family. Get out of the sewer of DC and go home and actually live for those things that are truly important!!!

I wish him well. Strokes can often be successfully treated if caught in time, which appears is what happened. What is odd is he entered the hospital on Jan. 27 and no one breathed a word of this for 6 days. Dems spent the whole weekend planning to rush a vote on a new Supreme while Lujan was incapacitated and will not be able to vote anytime soon.

Don't worry, Romney and his brigade of RINO traitors will vote left to make it equitable.

The man had a craniotomy after a cerebellar stroke. There will not be full recovery in 6 weeks if ever.

My hope is that the Republicans will NOT be magnanimous should the opportunity arise to assert their "majority". I don't want to hear a word about "fairness" or consideration of why the Dems are one person short.
Too many strokes going on out there. I've got my suspicions.

I bet it will be more than that.
He had a bad bleed if they had crack his skull to relieve pressure.
May have long term effects.
I work in health care and stroke victims can lose ability to speak.
His was more than a regular stroke,he had a major bleed.

Never stopped Gabby Giffords (shot by a Leftist, BTW), even with half a brain and an estimated three times more IQ points than Joe Biden, still was wheeled drooling to the capitol to cast votes.

The Clot Shot takes out one of their own, when they critically need every single vote.
How cool is THAT?

mcconnell had better not do something tremendously stupid during this period of Lujan's absence as he usually does when it really counts - saw mcconnell on C-Span a few days ago at a seminar ... he could hardly walk down a few steps from the stage and had to be assisted by some "rump swab" (thank you, Howie Carr) aide.

What it has come to ..... every time someone in the news has had a stroke or heart issues, the first thing you do is wonder if they have had the clot shot. And in many cases, if it is reported, answer is eventually yes.

1985, Pete Wilson voted from a wheelchair, as did Robert Byrd in 2009.
They may ask for a special provision for Lujan to vote from home or from the hospital, because of Kung Flu.

No problem. His wife can vote in his stead and run his Senate seat. There is a precedence.

Wasn't there a case of some incapacitated pol, where his/her aides wanted to cast a vote because they "knew" what the intentions would be?

A family member had a blood clot and stroke several years ago. While he got treated with the clotbuster shot within 30 minutes, recovery was a long haul - a week in the hospital (several days in ICU), intensive in-patient therapy (physical, speech and occupational) for two weeks, home therapy for a month and months of outpatient physical therapy. He's mostly recovered, but it was a full-time job for several months.
The longer the time period between the stroke and treatment, the more damage that has to be overcome.
