A Pittsburgh bridge collapsed early Friday, according to authorities, just hours before President Biden was scheduled to visit the city to talk about infrastructure. No injuries were immediately reported, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety, which reported a “confirmed bridge collapse” at around 6:50 a.m. A photo from KDKA shows at least four vehicles, including a Port Authority bus, on the bridge near Forbes and Braddock avenues, which splits the Point Breeze, Regent Square and Squirrel Hill neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. Convenient, but not likely sabotage. The 'Burg has many aging steel bridges. Winter road salt takes its toll.

Makes ya wonder what they been doing with all the billions and billions Transportation Dept gets every budget (not to mention "shovel ready" measures they dole out when they need headlines) that's supposed to take care of bridges and roads. How much has Pa received in past 5 years? What did they do with it? Bridge inspection report?

What a “coincidence” a Pittsburg bridge “collapses” hours before Biden arrives to push the already passed so-called federal infrastructure law that has some money it it to replace or repair or replace bridges.

Tucker had a segment on the "Infrastructure Bill" last night and Pothole Pete Buttigieg explaining how the $1.2 trillion dollars would be spent. Apparently Mr. Kamala Harris is involved and they explained that it's all about the "equity." They are committed to identifying racist roads and bridges then educating and hiring members of "marginalized communities" to fix them. So, if your road or bridge is declared racist, and you've got about ten years to wait for the deserving "People of Color" to earn their engineering degree's, your grandchildren may just have a nice new bridge to walk across because all cars have been outlawed. Oh yes, the "infrastructure bill" is also all about "Climate Change" equity.

The city and the state collect plenty of taxes to maintain their roads and bridges. It's not "a federal problem" if they waste that money elsewhere, except to the extent that city and state officials are liable for criminal negligence and fraud for failing to do their jobs.

Most infrastructure failure is because states are not keeping up their own infrastructure because they spend their money elsewhere. So they want the feds to come in and fix their failing infrastructure so they can keep funneling their tax money to their pet projects. Except when fed money comes in the infrastructure doesn't get fixed and the money gets spent anyway. Look how much money was poured into Louisiana to fix the levies so they wouldn't fail. And year after year little got done and the money disappeared and more money was granted and finally the levies failed.

Most states tax gasoline...to be used for roads etc. LA does. Seems like not a penny goes into the "gas trust fiund." So as in LA so goes PA perhaps? Feds do the same thing. Taxes go into"other funds." So-called infrastructure does not exist. No money. PA's roads and bridges disintegrate. So does LA roads. I think TX is one state that puts the tax money collected from gas tax into their roads. Pretty good roads in TX.

We had a small concrete bridge over a secondary river in the KC area, about 100 feet long or so, near my former place of work suddenly drop 6" at one end, making a dangerous drop one way and a tire-destroying steel step the other way. The bridge was closed, and an announcement made at work because many people came that way to work. Another engineer and I decided to walk down at lunch the 1/4 mile to inspect it. Orange cones blocking the road stopped traffic. We went down the hill beside it and saw the huge 24" or so tall steel I-beams had corroded entirely through in a vertical line, letting the beam crush down and partially drop at one end. The cause was the water drain off of the road surface channeled the road salt laden water all winter to drain right down the steel beam, causing it to corrode severely in a 4 inch wide stripe. The ~3/4 inch thick center portion of the beam hadn't corroded through in a year, it had take a decade or two of NO inspection, or at least no competent inspection. A simple extention pipe on the drain outlet would have kept the salt water off of the beam, and painting the beam with corrosion resisting paint every 10 years would have gone a long way to make the bridge last for a century. But, the city or county or state, whoever was "responsible" for that bridge did NOTHING and after a few decades of total neglect, a bridge that had to have cost at least several hundred thousand dollars to replace was destroyed. A little bit of maintenance would have extended the life many decades. This is INCOMPETENCE and uncaring by the people we entrust with our public infrastructure. Bridges uninspected and unmaintained and unrepaired WILL eventually fall down. That is as certain as the sun rising in the east. They collect the taxes for "infrastructure" and do NOT use them wisely.

The truth is about 8 years ago we were hit with the "Corbett Transportation Tax". That was a tax that Gov Corbett wanted and got from our Republican legislators. This tax increased our gas at the pump by 40 cents per gallon and it was to be used for the repair of our roads and bridges in Pennsylvania. The truth is this tax was used in Philadelphia transportation. You know all those electric buses that were purchased and junked because the heavy batteries fell out because they were too damn heavy. Also, people can ride the bus all day for a buck. We in PA are still wondering what happened to ALL THOSE FUNDS. Now they want to charge us when we drive over most bridges in PA. This is crazy. We were screwed by the same republican legislators that are running for reelection. As for Gov Corbett, he was a one term governor.

The housing shortage has forced many potential buyers to move into rental properties as they look for their next home (and often find themselves on the wrong side of a bidding war). That option, however, is becoming increasingly expensive. A median two-bedroom apartment saw rent prices jump more than 14%. The median price for a one-bedroom rent reached $1,374 in January. The median price of a two-bedroom apartment reached $1,698. Natural-gas futures tallied their largest one-day percentage gain on record Thursday, up more than 46%, with the rally fueled by the expiration of the February contracts, and a “classic” short squeeze as a winter storm looms in the Northeast. “This is why it’s so dangerous to be short natural gas in the winter,” said Phil Flynn, senior market analyst at The Price Futures Group. “It’s especially dangerous to be short at a time when the expiration is right around the corner.” February natural gas climbed $1.99, or 46.5%, to settle at $6.265 per million British thermal units on Thursday. Social justice warriors are now in positions in the DOJ to implement “racial justice”, which determines how to prosecute cases based on the race and/or social justice cause, not commensurate with the crimes committed.A perfect example can be seen in a murder committed by a BLM arsonist.
