Shoplifters are so unconcerned with being arrested in the city that one of them stopped to chat with The Post after ransacking a Manhattan drug store—which is closing for good because of the out-of-control crime scourge. The Rite Aid at the corner of 8th Avenue and 50th Street in Hell’s Kitchen will close Feb. 8 because of the rampant pilfering, said store sources who claim thieves have ripped off more than $200,000 worth of merchandise in the past two months alone. A Post reporter followed one brazen thief at the store last week, watching him load four cases of beer into an oversize canvas bag

Next we'll hear about the "retail desert" that residents in these areas residents will be confronted with. We used to hear that "looters will be shot." NOW that means that looters will be photographed and interviewed. Cities are burned by racist-Marxists without punishment, while trespassers are denied a speedy trial by tyrants bought and paid for by billionaire nut-cakes ... While ILLEGAL invaders are enabled and encouraged. All for the creation of CHAOS so that Democrats can appear to come to "the rescue."

Under bi.den’s Startled Possum stare, civilization disintegrates, and he claps for an ice cream cone like a seal.

100+ years ago people in NY and elsewhere paid for private security and fire protection. Such services did tend to dgenerate into a racket when if you didn't pay you could guarantee problems. But now we pay with taxes and get Bupkis in return. Maybe its time to let the mob take protection back. No cameras - no witnesses - problems just gone.

You have to ask, what is it with the black community. You watch tv or watch tv commercials and they are portrayed as the pillars of the community, yet they are responsible for 90% of the crimes. Something is very wrong there. Now the store shuts down and everybody in the neighborhood suffers because of a few lawless thugs. When are people going to wake up.

Why wait two weeks before closing? By that time everything in the store will be stolen. And with the shelves almost empty now any honest shoppers will already be going elsewhere.
All things considered Rite Aid would probably save money by trucking all stock away today, laying off the employees, and locking up.
But pharmacy customers deserve some notice. So that is an argument keeping that function open.

The Manhattan DA ran on a platform of lower bail and more criminals being let out with no bail. They still voted for this moron or the dims cheat, I believe it's the former - they just automatically vote dim even though their life is becoming a living hell. I'm baffled.

If you feel bad about criminals in cells get used to staying in your apartment and using Amazon.

In the "bad old days" they could have hired a big bruiser with a blackjack and a pistol as store security, and ended it very quickly.
In today's NYC....that would get the security quickly arrested.

Somebody here speculates that this area will soon be a retail"desert." Correctly so. But the frightening thing is that this isn't in the "ghetto" of New York City -- it's in the heart of midtown Manhattan, part of the Theatre District and blocks from the Hilton Hotel and co-op apartments that sell fror $1,000,000. It's an area heavily trafficked by tourists. Or maybe once.

It seems to me that the only way a store could stay open in such areas, is to convert to 'curb delivery' or 'window service' where the customer calls ahead with their order then the staff either deliver the order to the customer at the curb, or the customer picks up their order at a window.
No more customers allowed into the store.
As for me, I'm glad that I'm a LOOONG way away from this nonsense.
And New Yawk...... I will NOT be visiting anytime soon!

Keep it up NY. At the next census, Wyoming will have more reps in congress than NY.

The greater injustice would be for Rite Aid and the Rotten Apple DA's office to abandon their commitment to Diversity and Black Excellence. Keep the store open or they will have no place to steal from.
