Seven US sailors were injured Monday when a fighter jet had a “landing mishap” on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the South China Sea, officials said. The pilot of the F-35 Lighting II warplane was recovered by a helicopter after ejecting and is in stable condition. The incident occurred during “routine flight operations,” the Navy said. Three of the injured sailors were taken to a medical facility in Manila, while the other four were treated aboard the ship. Three of the four have since been released.
The status of the Lockheed Martin-made F-35, estimated to cost around $94 million, is unclear.

Nope, not unclear, unless it fired a rocket that injured those sailors from a distance, it was a catastrophic FAIL, likely while landing, and it is TOAST, tooo expensive and intensive to repair, toooo far from any repair facility, and the ONLY way to get it there is to send the entire carrier off station, at a time where it is deployed in a critical function and Biden is threatening to go to WAR with both China and Russia...at the SAME TIME.
No matter really though, it seems both Russias, and Chinas aircraft can beat any f35 in any head to head confrontation anyway. BUT, the good news is that it will fly on "Green Fuel"!!! Specially made, imported, stored onboard at a mere THREE TIMES the cost of what the rest of the airwing uses.

Was the pilot vaxxed? I doubt it. It's the unvaxxed pilots who do all the crashes.

#2 - I've been told by a reliable source that even the F-16 proved it can top our newest Gen 5 fighter. Granted, that was a one-on-one, close-in demonstration which is not envisioned for the F-35. Will be interesting to see if this was pilot error or aircraft-related.
Nice to see that the Filipinos are still on our side and can be relied upon when needed. We're going to need all the help we can get around the South China Sea in the coming years.

The deck of a modern aircraft carrier is among the most dangerous places in the world to work. My hat is off to all the sailors and airmen who do it.
If the status of the aircraft is “unclear” and the pilot ejected, that means it’s at the bottom of the ocean.

Injuries on deck after a landing mishap and with the pilot ejecting.....seems likely that the bird went over the side. If so, will we recover it, or will the Chinese?
I hope that the sailors will be OK, but a carrier deck is one of the most dangerous places to work anywhere.
Lots of ways things can go wrong, very quickly.

It ain't easy landing a plane on a moving object. Seas and wind come into play as well as angle of descent and air speed. Meanwhile, people on the deck are doing their jobs and standing by for just this type of incident.

This story from 2 months ago notes that the British navy crashed an F-35 on takeoff, supposedly because they forgot to remove a red engine cover marked quite clearly "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT," and the Russians were on their way to retrieve it from the bottom of the sea. So maybe this is the F-35 that we're giving to China to copy, despite their already having the complete plans because information security is expensive and takes skill.

Maybe the Gay Pride flag came loose and obscured the pilot's view.
