The conservative-dominated Supreme Court could put an end to the practice of factoring race into college admissions, after agreeing to take up a pair of court challenges claiming affirmative action is unfair to white and Asian American students on Monday. The high court said it will take up lawsuits claiming that Harvard University, a private institution, and the University of North Carolina, a state school, discriminate against Asian American applicants. The suits claim that affirmative action gives an edge to African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans over Asian students.

All references to an applicants race should be removed from applications. The applicant should be admitted on their merits (all judged equally), not skin color. If that means that 50% of the freshman class is Asian, then maybe the other people need to study a little harder. I would also love to see legacy admissions removed. Just because your parents went there doesn't mean their kids should. Also get rid of admitting kids of the rich and famous because of who their parents are. I find it hard to believe that almost all children of US Presidents and actors have kids who are smart enough to get into Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, yet somehow many manage to do so.

Imagine laying on a gurney in a trauma hospital, your life oozing from your injuries. Up walks the emergency doctor. What's the only important characteristic concerning you as your very life hanging in the balance. I know I will ask if the doctor had a diverse medical class with plenty of lesbians, homosexuals, transgenders, blacks, Mexicans, atheists, Muzzies and Chinese. And hopefully no white males! Lord knows one doesn't care about competence as diversity is what makes a doctor great.

Asians work hard & are family oriented so are the new Jews to the Ivy League.
So 5-4 or 6-3 for SCOTUS to B-slap Ivy.

I think admission should be based on their height.

Harvard has forever destroyed their own reputation as a first class school where only the best and brightest are welcome. That is punishment enough. Let them continue to run under the delusion that educating ten low IQ students is better than making a smart one smarter. They will no longer be able to charge those outrageous prices for Climate Change classes.
Removing the race checkbox from the application form fools nobody if the name is Demetrius or DeShawn, unless it's a previous Harvard grad reading the form.

Ha! How about if each applicant is given a number. The applicant names are each replaced with a unique number. The reviewers will not be able to judge the applicants by the names.
I worked with a black lady. Her sons do not have ethnic names. She doesn't want them to be judged by their name on a job application etc.

Even if the SC rules against the college they and others will continue to discriminate.

I suspect that the allure of an Ivy League diploma has faded. I recall when I was impressed, many years ago, before I figured out that their students might be “strange” but not necessarily “smart”, talented or otherwise extraordinary. Before long, Harvard and etc. will be advertising to Asian students.

Meanwhile, over on the West Coast there's UCLA: the "University of Caucasians Lost among Asians." 40% Asian undergrads in Westwood, while down the coast at UCSD - 50% (compared to 23% white). Works for me. They've earned it, based on what I see of the grads that I work with.
As for the Supreme Court, O'Connor opined in 2003: “We expect that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary.” In other words, it wasn't time yet and - per her timetable - we're still not there.

ALL "affirmative action" is systemic racism. There should be no info on race in any college applications.

Pretty sure this is exactly what is happening in colleges and it has been happening for years.
