The corpse of a 66-year-old man was carried to a post office by two fraudsters in an alleged bid to claim his pension, in scenes reminiscent of the 1989 film Weekend At Bernie's.(Snip)Irish police are investigating whether the elderly man, named locally as Peadar Doyle, may have been dead for up to two days when yesterday morning's incident took place. The fraudsters, one of whom knew the 66-year-old well, had put a jumper over Mr Doyle's face and a hat on his head. Both men, who were in their 30s, went into the post office and tried to get the money but staff told them

Comments:

If Joe Bidet can be pResident of the USA with a little help from Doctor Jill, then Peadar Doyle should certainly be able to collect his pension check at the post office, with a little help from his friends.

If this had been the USA they would only had to submit a change of address form. Additionally, they could have voted in Mr. Doyle's place for the rest of their lives.

In the US, they'd only have to say he was from south of the Texas border, to get his cash. No ID necessary, no proof of vax.

Reminds me of a post office story in San Antonio. One Sunday morning, a grieving widow bangs on the door of the main post office, asking to collect the life insurance proceeds of her postal employee husband, who had met an untimely death the night before (murder). After a rather short investigation, prompted by the widow's quick interest in collecting the insurance, it was found that the grieving widow and her boyfriend had a rather large part in the husband's demise.

The new woke Superman isn’t flying with fans, according to the latest comic book sales numbers. John F. Trent reported Monday for the entertainment website Bounding into Comics that sales of “Superman: Son of Kal-El”—in which the son of the original Superman becomes a climate activist, advocates for illegal immigrants and dates a male reporter after donning his father’s cape—failed to crack the top 50 for the number of units sold only five issues into its new run. This represents an unprecedented sales flop for the Man of Steel, he said. “That’s right, the flagship Superman book at DC Comics is not on a Top 50

Two men have been charged with the murder of law student Aya Hachem who was mistakenly gunned down in a botched drive-by shooting. Tyre firm boss Feroz Suleman, 40, arranged the execution of a rival businessman in broad daylight but the gunman he hired instead shot dead innocent passer-by Aya. The 19-year-old who dreamed of becoming a solicitor had fled from violence in her native Lebanon as a child to settle with her family in Blackburn, Lancashire. The shocking video shows the pair locking up their shop in north London, when they are approached by a passer-by who launches an astonishing attack, knocking one to the floor and causing both to lose their kippah. The attack, which is being probed as a hate crime by police, took place in Stamford Hill—a Jewish community which last year saw a 'worrying rise' in anti-Semitic violence following escalating tension in the Middle East.

Washington—Republicans’ faith in science is falling as Democrats rely on it even more, with a trust gap in science and medicine widening substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic, new survey data shows. It’s the largest gap in nearly five decades of polling by the General Social Survey, a widely respected trend survey conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago that has been measuring confidence in institutions since 1972. That is unsurprising to more than a dozen scientists reached for comment by The Associated Press, but it concerns many of them. Science used to be something all Americans would get behind, Rice University historian Douglas Brinkley said.
