Election officials in the Texas county that includes the state capital, Austin, have rejected about half of applications for mail-in ballots, following new voting restrictions brought in by Republicans. The voter identification rules have led to the rejection of about half of the 700 mail-in ballots requested in Travis county for primary elections in March, according to the county’s clerk. The denied ballots in Travis county follow a similar trend across Texas, with officials in Harris county, which includes the city of Houston, and Bexar county, which includes San Antonio, also turning down a substantial number of mail-in ballot applications.

If you aren't properly registered to vote, you aren't a voter.

Racism. Trump is denying the undocumented and zombie members of our community the sacred right to vote!

I am with the secretary of state, and am surprised at the rate of returned ballots in Austin aka "California East". You'd think all those progressive, woke voters would know exactly what the need to do to make their vote count.

#4, widespread rejection of bogus mail-in ballot applications indicates widespread attempts at voter fraud and a willingness to do something about it. That's newsworthy. Extract the matters of fact from the editorializing and there's valuable information that we'd not otherwise learn from the US press, whose bias is staggering and perhaps even worse than in the UK in that the latter at least presents some facts, versus ignoring inconvenient news entirely.

"In Texas, state Republicans last year enacted new voting laws that require absentee voters to include their driver’s license number, state ID number or the last four digits of their social security number on their applications. Counties then have to match this information with voter profiles to approve them for a mail-in ballot."
The mail-in ballot requests were probably rejected because they did not include either the applicant's Texas driver's license, the applicant's Texas ID number, or the last 4 digits of the applicant's social number, OR that the submitted document cannot be matched with a record to verify its authenticity. Note also: these documents do not prove or disprove U.S. Citizenship.
If you have been lawfully issued a Texas driver's license OR a Texas ID card you have previously proven to the state of Texas that (1) you are a U.S. Citizenship OR that you are legally in the United States, (2) that you are a resident of Texas, and (3) and your identity. You do not need to be a U.S. Citizen to get a Social Security Card.
The Article suggests that many or most of these applications have been rejected because Texas does not have sufficient information to approve them based on the unstated premise that those records are screwed up, incomplete or otherwise insufficient.
ITS TEXAS' FAULT! We are supposed to believe that Texas cannot ascertain to whom it has issued driver's licenses and/or Texas IDs, and that the federal government does not know to whom it has issued Social Security Cards.

Without that simple proof how else can they know the request is from that person? They should also require a push to their cell phone like most everything else these days.

Just a guess, but could they be filing the intentionally incomplete applications to make the new law look bad??>

Voting is not a sacred right. It is a privilege. So is banking, going to the doctor or a clinic where you have to present ID and other documents. In Texas to get a drivers license you need to show proof of citizenship, the Gyardian is left wing trash.

Can't get much easier. If you want to vote absentee, simply include your driver’s license number, state ID number or the last four digits of your social security number on your application.
The information you provide should match your county profile, ensuring YOU and only you get to cast your vote.
There's a reason corrupt politicians wanted the sloppy chain of custody procedures we witnessed in the last presidential election.

This has to do with new election laws passed in special session of the Texas legislature where the driver's license or last four digits of social security number are used to VERIFY this person as an actual living person for a paper trail to prevent cheating.
The media is spinning it that it is preventing people from voting due to race-- this has nothing to do with race!
Those who get notice of rejection are allowed to correct the mistakes and are not prevented from "curing" their own ballots. This is not disenfranchisement in the least, but it is inconvenient if they did not follow instructions.

Voter fraud is exceedingly rare and all claims of rigged elections have been disproven, according to the press, and never you mind the many "racist" attempts to further rig the vote because the press wants to see more fellow Marxists elected.
