A tiny administrative agency in the District of Columbia announced a new policy Tuesday that will likely serve as a model for a whole-of-government push to assemble lists of Americans who object on religious grounds to a COVID-19 vaccine. The Pretrial Services Agency for the District of Columbia—a federal independent entity that assists officers in the District of Columbia courts in formulating release recommendations and providing supervision and services to defendants awaiting trial—announced a new records system that will store the names and “personal religious information” of all employees who make “religious accommodation requests for religious exception from the federally mandated vaccination requirement.”

Why aren’t liberals fun anymore?

Two important cases came before the Supreme Court this week, and in Congress the Nancy Pelosi Reichstag Fire Revisited was being played out. In both cases these bodies deserved our disrespect for their violation of established norms and display of ignorance. (Snip) The question in these two cases is whether the mandates were properly issued under the Administrative Procedure Act and in accord with the agencies’ congressionally delegated powers, not the individual justices' views on the spread of COVID-19. It was hoped that these cases would rein in administrative agency overreaching and end a period of too lax judicial oversight of their activities.

President Biden can claim that COVID-19 remains a "pandemic of the unvaccinated" partly because "the CDC has played fast and loose with a lot of studies and data," Yale School of Public Health epidemiologist Harvey Risch says.

Risch noted the agency told physicians to put COVID on death certificates regardless of whether they think the infection played a role. Hospitalizations have also conflated admissions "with" and "from" COVID, he said.

Researchers from Oregon State University announced that certain compounds with cannabis are able to block the virus responsible for COVID-19 from penetrating human cells.
The study, led by Richard van Breemen of Oregon State's Global Hemp Innovation Center, College of Pharmacy, and Linus Pauling Institute, was published Monday in the Journal of Natural Products.
A pair of cannabinoid acids were found to bond with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and block a vital part of the process that allows the virus to infect people, van Breemen said.
"We identified several cannabinoid ligands and ranked them by affinity to the spike protein," van Breemen said.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment Thursday charging Mosby on federal charges of perjury and making false mortgage applications, relating to the purchases of two vacation homes in Florida.
According to the four-count indictment, on May 26, 2020, and Dec. 29, 2020, Mosby submitted "457(b) Coronavirus-Related Distribution Requests" for one-time withdrawals of $40,000 and $50,000, respectively, from the city of Baltimore's Deferred Compensation Plans.
