As Peter Allen once sang, everything old is new again … including grocery shortages. Joe Biden and Democrats initially scoffed at the idea that Americans can’t find their choices at supermarkets, but the empty shelves have become so numerous as to defy denial. The media is starting to abandon the Democrats’ us-or-your-lyin’-eyes credibility test on the grocery-supply shortages. It’s going to get worse before it gets better, largely because of the CDC guidances on isolation over asymptomatic positives in the Omicron wave, as Slate’s Aaron Mak notes: Grocery stores and food supply chains have been stretching

I've been stocking up for almost 2 years. With TP, I started in 2015. I was afraid obamie would declare a national crisis, stop commerce and cancel the 2016 election. I can't find instant mashed potatoes at Aldi but it isn't a heart breaker.

Our local grocery store, a LARGE Kroger store, was completely out of bananas. I have never seen that happen before! Not one in the entire display area. There are spotty outages around the store, scattered among a variety of products. Appalling. It reminds me of those pictures of Soviet-era grocery stores with completely empty shelves. We're not there yet, but surely headed that way.

The shelves aren't as empty as the weekend prior to the first 2020 lockdown, that what surreal, but gaps in the shelves are getting bigger. Also getting bigger, my weekly grocery bill!

Same here poster #1. I have always been a TP hoarder, my kids used to joke about it. I've been after my son to go to Costco and buy more, we also need to stock up on dog and cat food. Otherwise we are in pretty good shape food and medicine wise.

I also meant to add now would be a good time to start stocking up on garden seeds. Hopefully they will soon be for sale in stores. You never know. If you don't have room for a garden, you can plant most things in pots.

At WalMart yesterday, STILL no canned cat food, unless you count the boxed cans for $25. My cats won't eat most of those flavors contained in there. Meat prices are horrendous. I wait for discounted pricing but you have to be at the store early to catch those. Right now I am without a car.

Surely Mayor Pete and Chasen know what to do. Send somebody to knock on their door, but softly so they don't wake the kids, and ask how to fix this. Make sure to apologize for disturbing Pete's maternity/paternity leave. Make sure your stockpile of ammunition is at least as high as your stockpile of food.

The shortage in 2020 was because of panic buying just like we usually get for a pending winter storm. But this shortage is because the suppliers aren't producing.

I became a “prepper” in 2010 due to fears similar to #1. I thought that Smidgen’s policies would tank the economy and I wanted to be able to survive and not participate in food riots which would surely have come as a result of depleted stores. We may be seeing them soon. Instead of “smash and grabs” for designer hand bags, we may be seeing them for gallons of milk. As I have posted on other threads - my daughter lives in the suburban DC area and she sent me photos of her local Giant Supermarket where the meat, dairy, produce and juice departments were completely empty. She has two kids under the age of two and is having trouble finding some of the things she uses from the baby aisle as well. And this is practically in the front yard of the White House and in the country’s wealthiest county.

Inflation plowed ahead at its fastest 12-month pace in nearly 40 years during December, according to a closely watched gauge the Labor Department released Wednesday. The consumer price index, a gauge that measures costs across dozens of items, increased 7%, according to the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a monthly basis, CPI increased 0.5%. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting the measure to increase 7% on an annual basis and 0.4% from November. The annual move was the fastest increase since June 1982.

While the battle over education has settled back into the trenches over the last few months following Glenn Youngkin’s big win in Virginia, we are beginning to learn more about how parents became so demonized. As RedState reported at the time, the NSBA sent a letter to the DOJ that urged action against parents speaking out at school board meetings under the guise of the Patriot Act. The DOJ then used that letter as justification to use its counter-terrorism division to add “threat tags” to parents. But as bad as that was, today’s news makes it all the worse.

As expected, President Biden and Vice President Harris visited the state of Georgia earlier today where a sometimes confused Biden gave a scripted, angry speech in which he did a complete 180 on his previous remarks from his decades as a Senator about preserving the filibuster, endorsing making whatever changes necessary to the Senate rules in order to, as he said it, “prevent a minority of Senators from blocking action on voting rights.” “When it comes to protecting majority rule in America, the majority should rule in the United States Senate,” he stated. President Biden declared on Tuesday that Democrats have “no option” but to change filibuster rules to pass a pair of voting bills, hours after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) warned the changes could “silence the voices of millions” of Americans. “I believe the threat to our democracy is so grave that we must find a way to pass these voting rights bills; debate them, vote, let the majority prevail,” Biden said in a speech at Morehouse College in Atlanta. “If that bare minimum is blocked, we have no option but to change the Senate rules including getting rid of the filibuster for this.”

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett fired two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help lift the Bulldogs to their first national championship since 1980, beating Alabama 33-18. After a questionable fumble call that led to an Alabama score earlier in the period, Bennett would regroup and toss a 40-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell to put the Bulldogs back up. Bennett would strike again later in the fourth with a 15-yard touchdown to Brock Bowers. With 3:33 left, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young would get the ball back to try to force overtime. Young would throw a Pick Six to Kelee Ringo, which would seal the deal.

The White House considers Georgia as “ground zero” for voter suppression laws. Somewhere along the way, Georgia Democrats didn’t receive the memo. They question why Biden and Kamala are traveling to their state tomorrow to echo the themes of Biden’s highly divisive January 6 speech and talk up his endorsement of a filibuster carveout in order to pass voting rights legislation in the Senate. This is a perfect example of the tone-deafness that plagues the Biden administration. Biden and Harris can’t even get on the same page as their own party activists. Most people discounted CDC and FDA credibility after they admitted to “noble lies” such as that on masking, but recently the CDC have stepped up their game on obvious incompetence and politicization. The impression of desperate flailing had already been made on many Americans prior to this, but now media outlets like Axios have sat up and taken notice: While much of the unvaccinated population is unlikely to be persuaded by any messenger, large swaths of the public are still receptive to expert guidance, but federal health agencies, particularly the CDC, may be squandering their credibility with this population.

Meanwhile, as Biden’s handlers do everything they can to be conciliatory toward Iran, the Islamic regime in Tehran is more belligerent than ever. Ned Price and his colleagues would be wise to ponder whether there is a connection between those two stances, but they won’t.

Most Americans today have a romanticized (and extraordinarily narrow) historical understanding of the conflict that we call the Civil War. In their imaginations, it goes something like this: With passions inflamed by a moral renaissance in the North regarding the institution of slavery in the South, the two sides decided to go to war over the issue. In the end, the evil South was righteously razed by the armies of the North, and thus, slavery was ended, and the former slaves made American citizens, as Abraham Lincoln intended.
