A business owner in Salem, Oregon, painted a mural honoring the American flag and the Marines who raised it at Iwo Jima. Most observers considered it a beautiful memorial and an attractive use of an otherwise nondescript wall. The owner of the business commissioned a local artist to create the tasteful and fetching display of patriotism. The Salem City Council has ordered him to remove it, or face fines of up to $200 per day. The artist, Mario De Leon, raised the alarm in a Facebook post: What’s up everybody. The city of Salem is forcing @valleyroofingoregon to remove the mural I painted or to give the mural to the Salem art society.

I’ve never watched, from start to finish, a Mr. Potato Head (Brian Stelter) segment. I’ve watched parts (so you don’t have to), but with each tick of the second hand clanging in my head, like barbarians pounding at the gate, I could feel synapses snapping. I don’t mean firing, I mean blowing, like a transformer getting zapped. It might take me a week of therapy to get over the banality of what I watched.

In a shocking example of media honesty, the editor-in-chief of Germany’s top newspaper, Bild, has apologized for the news outlet’s panic-driven coverage of the China flu. He specifically singled out children who were told “that they were going to murder their grandma.”
Editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt videotaped his apology and told the children of Germany he was sorry for Bild’s coverage, which was “like poison” and “made you feel like you were a mortal danger to society.”

Jacob Lang has been awaiting trial without bail in the D.C. jail for his involvement in the January 6 riot at the Capitol for almost a year, along with many others who have been charged with crimes connected to that day. With no trial date in sight, he and his fellow inmates languish in a jail they say is inhumane. The J6 prisoners’ complaints about filthy conditions and inhumane treatment resulted in a surprise inspection that found everything they were saying was true. Twitter permanently closed Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R., Ga.) personal account on Sunday over repeated violations of the company’s Covid misinformation policy, a company spokesperson told CNN.
The congresswoman’s official account, @RepMTG, remains functional. It wasn’t immediately clear what comments on the personal account prompted the suspension.
