As Minnesotans celebrate the new year, some new laws are also set to take effect. Below are some of the state's new laws, effective Jan. 1, 2022. A person's driver's license can't be suspended based solely on their failure to pay traffic tickets, parking fines or surcharges following a conviction for vehicle operation or parking citation. The Department of Public Safety also can't suspend a driver's license for failure to appear in court on a petty misdemeanor.

is there also a provision in that law for chopping off someone's hands if they're caught stealing or allowing a husband to beat his wife and divorce her just by saying he is divorcing her? No?? well, maybe next time.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Friday he was confident the pandemic will end in 2022 "if we end inequity" and spread vaccine wealth, urging nations to better cooperate on battling the coronavirus. In a New Year's address, Tedros said the tools were available to end the pandemic as the world enters its third year of the pandemic. But he argued that "narrow nationalism" and "vaccine hoarding" was preventing the pandemic from coming to an end, and led to the emergence of the highly transmissible omicron variant.

A business owner in Salem, Oregon, painted a mural honoring the American flag and the Marines who raised it at Iwo Jima. Most observers considered it a beautiful memorial and an attractive use of an otherwise nondescript wall. The owner of the business commissioned a local artist to create the tasteful and fetching display of patriotism. The Salem City Council has ordered him to remove it, or face fines of up to $200 per day. The artist, Mario De Leon, raised the alarm in a Facebook post: What’s up everybody. The city of Salem is forcing @valleyroofingoregon to remove the mural I painted or to give the mural to the Salem art society.

The cruise ship industry has been hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, much of their pain and suffering has been self-inflicted, driven by their mindless following of pointless federal dictates. That has most noticeably manifested itself in the implementation of so-called “vaccine passports.” Of course, vaccine passports do not actually accomplish anything. New York City not only has a vaccine passport system, but they also have a vaccine mandate. Still, they lead the nation in new coronavirus cases as of this writing. But the fact that everyone spreads COVID — and that vaccine passports made no sense — is not new information. And when Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida

Center for Vaccine Development director Dr. Peter Hotez said Friday on CNN’s “The Lead” that because the Omicron variant is so transmissible, “we should anticipate widespread social disruptions over the next few weeks.” Hotez said, “This Omicron variant is so transmissible, it’s like nothing we’ve seen before among COVID variants. Almost as transmissible as measles which is probably the most common highly transmissible infectious agent that we know. So the message is if you don’t want to get COVID, keep your gatherings really small. Surround yourself with vaccinated people. This is not the year for big New Year’s parties.
