Lectures at Georgetown University will move online until at least the end of January due to a rise in coronavirus cases, leaders have said in a letter to students.The $60,000-a-year Washington DC school said it hoped in-person classes for spring semester would resume across the university campus January 31 following the two-week delay.Undergraduate residential students however will still be able to move into on-campus dorms from January 11.Georgetown President John J. The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Friday he was confident the pandemic will end in 2022 "if we end inequity" and spread vaccine wealth, urging nations to better cooperate on battling the coronavirus.

MINNEAPOLIS - A young family was carjacked at gunpoint at their home in south Minneapolis by a group of apparent teenagers. The carjacking took place on the morning of Dec. 18. However, newly surfaced surveillance video reveals the group of suspects and black SUV getaway car. "All of us mentally have walked away extremely scared and traumatized," said the owner of the car, who requested to conceal her name out of fear for her family’s safety. She said the group of apparent teenagers attacked her boyfriend in the garage before he had a chance to close the garage door.
A business owner in Salem, Oregon, painted a mural honoring the American flag and the Marines who raised it at Iwo Jima. Most observers considered it a beautiful memorial and an attractive use of an otherwise nondescript wall. The owner of the business commissioned a local artist to create the tasteful and fetching display of patriotism.
The Salem City Council has ordered him to remove it, or face fines of up to $200 per day.

Hotez said, “This Omicron variant is so transmissible, it’s like nothing we’ve seen before among COVID variants. Almost as transmissible as measles which is probably the most common highly transmissible infectious agent that we know. So the message is if you don’t want to get COVID, keep your gatherings really small. Surround yourself with vaccinated people. This is not the year for big New Year’s parties.
