Nikole Hannah-Jones, 1619 Project creator and professor, said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that parents should not be in charge of deciding what is taught in schools.Hannah-Jones said, “I don’t really understand this idea that parents should decide what’s being taught. I’m not a professional educator. I don’t have a degree in social studies or science. We send our children to school because we want them to be taught by people who have expertise in the subject area. And that is not my job.”

People like Nikole Hannah-Jones should not be allowed anywhere near children, and any politician or teacher that thinks parents should not be allowed to know what their children are taught in schools should be sent to Siberi or anywhere to kick them out of civilization.

She has it backwards. The schools serve us, the taxpayers, and as such we shall call the shots.

She ( and all those that support CRT ), does/do not want parents interfering with their indoctrination/brainwashing of their kids. Too bad, it's out there, the parents are not going away.

One of the main problems with Hannah Jones' statement is that teachers are no longer teachers, they are indoctrinators. If they were really teachers, student scores for basic topics would not have been dropping over the last decades and students would actually be able to add and subtract and write a complete sentence -- which they don't seem able to do any more.

So, for the record, I am a professional educator (public high school and university), I hold advance degrees in history and social sciences, and I am a parent and the the 1619 project is crap. As a parent I have the absolute right to determine what my children are exposed to and how our history is presented. The 1619 project is pure propaganda, Stalin, Mao, and Hitler would be proud of Nikole.

In the same way modern "journalists" rmanipulate, slant and selectively report facts and events to suit their political agendas, so do modern teachers manipulate, slant and selectively teach history's facts and events to suit their political agendas, and the reason I put both professions in italics is because journalists are no longer journalists and teachers are no longer teachers but both are "propagandists." More succinctly stated, I do not object to the actual history modern teachers are teaching but I do strenuously object to their teaching their interpretation of that history.

Leftist, Racist, Propagandists should not be deciding what is taught to children. Leave that to the parents who care enough about their children's and grandchildren's education to homeschool them.

Within the nature of a Republic is the idea that we have voted for and elected people who will make government decisions for us. We have the right to vote for people who will speak for us.

She understands *perfectly* what parents want and why.
This has *nothing* to do with education (reading, writing, math) and *everything* to do with politics and brainwashing the children into good little empty headed Marxist slaves.
That is her goal.
Her pretending not to understand is completely disingenuous.

NO, this is exactly backwards.
Teachers are EMPLOYEES. They WORK FOR the parents. Like any employees, their bosses tell THEM what to do.
And if the teachers don't like it, find another job.

I'm a parent and an educator. It's a no-brainer - education begins in the home.
At the end of the day, a school is only as good as the students that enroll in it. Trade out suburban kids with urban kids, and a seemingly miraculous transformation will occur within the district itself .If Southlake or Loudoun County kids were sent to inner-city Dallas or Washington, D.C., and those same Dallas or D.C. kids were bused out to the burbs, neither system would not produce the same results. Once-great schools would plummet in status and once-failing schools would be the exemplars of the profession. Ultimately, student and school success have nothing to do with the schools themselves and everything to do with the families from where the students originate. - Parker Beauregard May 7, 2021

Miz Hannah-Jones apparently missed the election results, where McAuliffe lost his re-election bid due to the same sentiment as hers. But hey, keep it up. When a leftist digs a hole for him or herself, let them.

I'd like to know just how much this alleged academic actually contributed to the toxic 1619 Project.
I'll suggest not much, she's just a protected class facade immune to criticism. This story alone shows her
to be a fool for example. Sic Project Veritas on her sorry arse.

They are nothing but poison. I'm a teacher and I can tell you that the level of CRAP being funneled into schools from Screwels of Edumacation worldwide. It will not stop. The communists own all of the modern university system.
Do whatever you need to do to get your children and grandchildren out of public school. Don't leave them a paltry sum in a will after you are long gone. Provide them with a living legacy - a real education. Otherwise, despite what you teach and preach, they will be turned. The pressure is immeasurable.

Education is the only profession where the lay people are better at the job than the professionals. e.g. a math major can teach math better than an education major, and that goes for ever other discipline.
The way to fix education is to let people send their kids to the school of their choice. If need be let there be competitive applications. The schools that do well will be crowded and those that don’t will see no one wants to go there. They will be out of business and the teachers will have to find another way to make a living.
Had a “hot shot” teacher tell me it is unfair for the poor teacher to risk being fired!(ite!)

Back when I was on a public school board, it was well known that the college grads entering teaching were overwhelmingly from the bottom third of the class. That was in the 80's. I see nothing to indicate that college standards are getting higher. Quite the opposite. The point of this is that "educators" are not, as a group, better qualified than parents to decide what is best for children. Furthermore, the parents, not the "educators," are the ones that love the children and actually want the best for them. Teachers generally want what's best for themselves.
