The electric car revolution will stall in the West if supplies of crucial battery elements like lithium fail to keep up with the forecast huge increase in demand.
As with most manufacturing and industry, China currently dominates the battery processing market too, and it is responsible for about 80% of global battery chemical refining capacity.
A possibly overlooked supply problem by the Biden administration especially considering President Biden just outlined a plan for 50% of new car purchases to be zero-emissions by 2030.
Lithium is a mineral that is key for electric car batteries. The pricing for it continues to rise in price,

Drive through any major city or high density housing suburb (with all the cars parked on the street) and please tell me the plan that will allow all those people to charge their electric cars. This is truly moronic.

My husband and I are retired. We love to travel. Until they can find some way to be able to recharge batteries in electric cars in 10 minutes or less, they are totally useless to us. Maybe if you live in a big city and only drive in that city, then maybe (though I seriously doubt it) they are anywhere near as good as gas or diesel vehicles.
We live in a big city (Austin, TX), where it's not unusual to have to drive 50 miles round trip to shop at a specialty store across town. We also often drive to San Antonio (about 100 miles each way), to Houston (about 200 miles), to Dallas (about 200 miles), and even to El Paso (about 600 miles). Driving 250 miles, and then having to recharge your car for 8 hours, makes them totally useless for us.
But Demon-Rats never care about people like us, so no shock that they are trying to ram this down our throats!!!

I think schmoe got a bag of money and the enclosed instructions were “let the chinese control all lithium” and he is. That’s what swallowell was told while attempting coitus, too. But don’t worry, they’re gonna “get Trump”- that will make America better.

Watched a guy blow up his Tesla electric car because a replacement battery starts at $12,500.

This is not only going to drive up the price of these fossil fuel powered electric cars but phones, laptops, tools and anything else that requires a lithium battery. Thank you FJB and Al Gore - the guy who started all this and made millions.

The US would have plenty of domestic lithium (I have gotten a gazillion emails about Elon Musk and some Arizona mine) but such mines and production are horribly toxic to the environ not to mention wasteful of water. But the left rarely cares if someone/somewhere else has to live with the consequences of their imagined electric car or windmill benefits.

This stupid plan was just as ill-conceived as his ridiculous Afghanistan pull-out, which successfully built back the taliban better.

In the middle 1970s I did engineering research and development on 'far future' vehicle technologies in engineering grad school. We built a hybrid car, and then spent some time looking at what to do next. One of the things we looked at was battery technologies. Lead acid and nickel cadmium batteries were well known technologies, with molten sulfur (really) and lithium just in the labs at that point. In looking at nickel cadmium as a possible widely used electric or hybrid electric vehicle battery, one of the things we researched was the availability of materials. Nickel is a relatively rare material and our research indicated that if you were to try to outfit a whole fleet of electric vehicles with Ni-Cad batteries.....you'd rapidly be running short on worldwide nickel, and it is used in stainless steel and aircraft turbine engines, and they already absorbed most of the world wide mining capacity for nickel.
Checking on the availability of raw materials is ALWAYS an important part of planning for introduction of a new technology to the mass market. But Marxists and Greenie-Weenie climate craze zealots wouldn't understand any of that.

...and then there is driving in the northern areas where the heater/defroster are going full out
to stop the car from entering igloo mode, not too mention the heated seats and steering wheel gobbling up all those electrons...or in southern areas in summer with the A/C blasting. Then the sun goes down and recharge time is over for the day.
