What About The Batteries? Lithium Shortage
May Stall The Electric Car Revolution,
Another Biden Blunder

The electric car revolution will stall in the West if supplies of crucial battery elements like lithium fail to keep up with the forecast huge increase in demand. As with most manufacturing and industry, China currently dominates the battery processing market too, and it is responsible for about 80% of global battery chemical refining capacity. A possibly overlooked supply problem by the Biden administration especially considering President Biden just outlined a plan for 50% of new car purchases to be zero-emissions by 2030. Lithium is a mineral that is key for electric car batteries. The pricing for it continues to rise in price,

My husband and I are retired. We love to travel. Until they can find some way to be able to recharge batteries in electric cars in 10 minutes or less, they are totally useless to us. Maybe if you live in a big city and only drive in that city, then maybe (though I seriously doubt it) they are anywhere near as good as gas or diesel vehicles. We live in a big city (Austin, TX), where it's not unusual to have to drive 50 miles round trip to shop at a specialty store across town. We also often drive to San Antonio (about 100 miles each way), to Houston (about 200 miles), to Dallas (about 200 miles), and even to El Paso (about 600 miles). Driving 250 miles, and then having to recharge your car for 8 hours, makes them totally useless for us. But Demon-Rats never care about people like us, so no shock that they are trying to ram this down our throats!!!

The US would have plenty of domestic lithium (I have gotten a gazillion emails about Elon Musk and some Arizona mine) but such mines and production are horribly toxic to the environ not to mention wasteful of water. But the left rarely cares if someone/somewhere else has to live with the consequences of their imagined electric car or windmill benefits.

In the middle 1970s I did engineering research and development on 'far future' vehicle technologies in engineering grad school. We built a hybrid car, and then spent some time looking at what to do next. One of the things we looked at was battery technologies. Lead acid and nickel cadmium batteries were well known technologies, with molten sulfur (really) and lithium just in the labs at that point. In looking at nickel cadmium as a possible widely used electric or hybrid electric vehicle battery, one of the things we researched was the availability of materials. Nickel is a relatively rare material and our research indicated that if you were to try to outfit a whole fleet of electric vehicles with Ni-Cad batteries.....you'd rapidly be running short on worldwide nickel, and it is used in stainless steel and aircraft turbine engines, and they already absorbed most of the world wide mining capacity for nickel. Checking on the availability of raw materials is ALWAYS an important part of planning for introduction of a new technology to the mass market. But Marxists and Greenie-Weenie climate craze zealots wouldn't understand any of that.

The FBI and police mounted a search for two men suspected of robbing U.S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon of her automobile at gunpoint on Wednesday in a Philadelphia park following a meeting there with other elected officials, according to her spokeswoman and police. Scanlon, a Democrat who represents Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District, was unharmed in the mid-afternoon carjacking, which occurred as she walked to her sport utility vehicle and was approached by two armed men believed to be 20 to 30 years of age, city police said. The suspects demanded the keys to her vehicle and she handed them over, at which point one man drove off in her car

President Trump has been on the road with former Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly with their “History Tour.” The final stop was in Dallas, Texas, last Sunday. President Trump is obviously trying to keep himself front and center on the national stage as he preps for another run at the White House in 2024. There have been various reports gleefully reporting low attendance as though that was an indication that GOP’s turn away from President Trump was imminent. While the venues were not jam-packed like in 2020, the turnout was very respectable. In Dallas, nearly 70% of the 20,000 seats at American Airlines Center were filled.

On December 15th, 2021, a bill largely expected to pass in both the House and the Senate was blocked by Oregon’s Ron Wyden (D). The bill in question “would require companies that import products from factories in the Xinjiang province of China to provide “clear and convincing evidence” to U.S. customs authorities that the products had no ties to forced labor. Even President Joe Biden promised he would happily sign the bill once it came to his desk. He said through White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki that doing so would “ensure global supply chains are free of forced labor.” There’s absolutely no bad optics on this bill.

However, the school is also a very special place, Assistant Principal Nate Stecker told the outlet. Students may choose to attend, and some enroll because of smaller classes and the teacher-to-student ratio. “We love these students, and we want to make sure that they have a good experience with a school setting,” Stecker explained. Sixteen-year-old Richard Coker attends because he was drawn to the smaller classes.

Pocketbook issues always matter most, especially now and regardless of the daily social media cycle. On that score, President Biden has every reason to be concerned. Even Democrats can’t paint a rosy picture for 2022, hence the likes of NPR predicting a “red wave.” You don’t have to be a Republican to see it.
