Olivia and Amy are sitting outside in the shade, trying to escape from New Zealand’s early-summer humidity. Amy, 10 months old, burbles happily in the background as her mother talks. She is healthy, happy, and oblivious to her status as a world first: one of a handful of babies born from the first sperm bank for HIV-positive donors. The bank, Sperm Positive, launched in New Zealand in 2019, in an effort to reduce the stigma faced by HIV-positive people—and raise awareness that with treatment, the virus was undetectable and untransmissible. It grabbed international headlines when it was launched, but has been more than a publicity gimmick.

They may have HIV, but the upside is they will be prohibited from smoking. Don’t dare point out that the HIV can kill them long before any any smoking-related diseases would.

The sperm bank was established to help destigmatize HIV+ status and the article highlights the claim that if an HIV+ man is using suppression medication he will not transmit the disease. So if there's nothing to fear, why does the Guardian's article end with this: "The names of sperm donors, children and mothers have been changed to protect the identity of donors that have not publicly disclosed their HIV status."

I'm curious. How many babies have been aborted because the doctors suspected they might be HIV positive at birth?
Risking the lives of innocent children because you are sexually promiscuous, have picked up an incurable disease and don't like living with the 'stigma' of what you've done? How, how...progressive of you.

Anybody name their baby Fauci yet? I remember polio. I remember thalidomide babies, then and now. Why do people keep trying to play God?

So it's now ok to have children that will require an HIV medication for their entire lives. By the way, having seen the commercials for these HIV meds the side effects are numerous and life threatening.

Sooo many years,
sooo much effort,
soooo much time and money,
Spent to "Normalize" a disease that could have been stopped in it's tracks by simply NOT doing the verrrrry specific "abnormal" actions that lead to being infected with it.
Don't get boned up the backside, don't share "fluids" but particularly needles with those that do.

The Letter "A" in AIDS stands for "Acquired", you have to do one of a very limited number of very specific actions to get it.

OT, but I have seen many posts, since Dr. Fraud has been front and center, about the number of their family members killed by his AZT medication. Now he's trying to do it again.

On a good day, in the best of worlds, conceiving and bringing a baby into the world is risky business. I would not be able to borrow trouble...

I'm confused. I thought the identity of donors and recipients were all privileged/private, and not known by either party.
I thought once the "donation" was done, no subsequent info about the disposition of the donation was provided.
How is it possible for an anonymous practice to carry "stigma"?
This sounds like fake news.

This is absolute madness and a crime! You don't purposely create human beings to be dependent on drugs the rest of their lives to stay alive and handicap their ability to lead a normal healthy life. The people doing this are EVIL. This is a life long curse and perpetual torture, both physically and mentally for these HIV + babies being born artificially.

Aside from the question of using a stranger's sperm to have a baby, we're there not enough conventional banks? C'mon man. Stigma my eye.

We have seen child abuse before birth. But now this is before conception. Not even the evil Dr. Mengele would have thought of this.

if your sperm ban is really having so much trouble finding safe doners that you need to tap the aids community, maybe you need to make some staffing changes...

So, is baby Amy HIV negative? The article never specifically addresses that. They just point to studies where HIV positive fathers have not passed on HIV to their children if they are taking HIV suppression meds.
If the baby is HIV positive, they will be on HIV meds for life. The pharmaceuticals will just love that.

I won't gratify this click bait with a click. But the lede seems to be setting up to suggest that covid-19 is more dangerous than HIV. And saying that treatment renders the HIV "undetectable and untransmissible" implies the babies conceived from HIV-positive sperm are free from HIV, themselves... a prospect that I find highly dubious. (Like most things I see from the Guardian).

RE: Fauchi, just read a puff piece about how wunnerfulll he is i Nat Geo. a Quote stuck out. Fauchi saw a blurb in the monthly MMWR(Morbidity and Mortality Monthly Report) stating that 5 gay men from Los Angeles had died of a new strange disease, The next month there were 26, from LosAngeles and now Sanfrancisco as well, clear enough that he REMEMBERED the exact date, july 5th 1981.
His quote: "I remember looking at that and going Oh My God, this is a brand new infectious disease, I actually got goosebumps. I had no idea what caused it, but I did know it destroyed the Immune System. As a physician and a scientist...If there was ever "The disease that was made for ME..it's This.". I mad the decision then and there that I was going to completely change the direction of my research. My mentors, the people that had recruited me here years ago, told me I was crazy. They said "Why are you throwing away a promising career to go chasing after a disease that is a fluke?"
I decided I was going to do it anyway.".
He became the world famous Go To Guy on AIDS/HIV. Yet never ONCE publicly declared "It only ever happens if you do THIS, don't DO That".

The ironic thing about this, as insane as it is, is that HIV has nothing to do with being gay. As we discovered recently, HIV is one of the early Fauci created diseases. As another poster noted, the world has gone mad.
